E2 alters the activity of the dopamine system, including the VTA and its projection targets, which plays an important role in binge drinking. Men and women respond differently to the subjective effects of cocaine and cocaine-associated cues, which has implications for the development and maintenance of cocaine addiction. Preclinical studies performed in rats, modeling various aspects of cocaine addiction, have largely validated these results, indicating that female rats may be more sensitive to the rewarding properties of cocaine. The molecular mechanisms leading to sex differences in cocaine reward have largely not been determined, although sex hormones are thought to play a role.

Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) of 50 human eyes, five from each 10 decades of life, were analyzed using ultrastructural morphometric techniques. Content of three types of pigments, lipofuscin, melanin, and complex granules, (melanolipofuscin, melanolysosomes) were recorded for cells from macular, equatorial, and peripheral retinal specimens. Areas occupied by pigments, nucleus, and cytoplasmic space were calculated.

Nutrient intake of elderly persons as determined by dietary histories based on food frequencies was examined in relation to various socioeconomic factors. A significantly larger proportion of women than of men had inadequate intakes for energy, calcium, iron, thiamin, and riboflavin. Housing, education, marital status, and work experiences were significantly related to the intake of one or more nutrients.

This study compared life events in three groups: hospitalized psychiatric, hospitalized paediatric, and non-patient non-hospitalized children, all aged 7-12 years. The most common life event in each group respectively was moving to a new school district, hospitalization for physical illnesses, and outstanding personal achievement. The hospitalized children had a significantly greater number of life events and mean score of life events than that of the general population.

Injuries frequently occur after immersion of corpses in water. Depending on the type of water different sorts of injuries, caused by drifting and being dragged, can lead to more or less severe abrasions of the soft parts of the body predominantly skin abrasions. This case is unique among hover 3000 corpses in water found in the last 4 decades in the Elbe.
