Purpose: In this feasibility study, we aimed to create a dedicated pulmonary augmented reality (AR) workflow to enable a semi-automated intraoperative overlay of the pulmonary anatomy during video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) or robot-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (RATS).

Background And Purpose: Retrospective dose evaluation for organ-at-risk auto-contours has previously used small cohorts due to additional manual effort required for treatment planning on auto-contours. We aimed to do this at large scale, by a) proposing and assessing an automated plan optimization workflow that used existing clinical plan parameters and b) using it for head-and-neck auto-contour dose evaluation.

Pacific Walruses (Odobenus rosmarus divergens [Illiger 1815]) are gregarious marine mammals considered to be sentinels of the Arctic because of their dependence on sea ice for feeding, molting, and parturition. Like many other marine mammal species, their population sizes were decimated by historical overhunting in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Although they have since been protected from nearly all commercial hunting pressure, they now face rapidly accelerating habitat loss as global warming reduces the extent of summer sea ice in the Arctic.

Background: Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) carries variability in arterial flow pulsatility (AFP).

Research Question: What changes in cerebral and somatic oxygenation, hemodynamics, and autonomic function are associated with AFP during VA-ECMO?

Methods: This is a prospective study of children on VA-ECMO undergoing neuromonitoring. AFP was quantified by arterial blood pressure pulse amplitude and subcategorized: no pulsatility (<1 mmHg), minimal pulsatility (1 to <5 mmHg), moderate pulsatility (5 to <15 mmHg) and high pulsatility (≥15 mmHg).

The 57B region of includes a cluster of the three homeobox genes (), (), and (). In an attempt to isolate mutants for these genes, we performed an EMS mutagenesis and isolated lethal mutants from the 57B region, among them mutants for , , and . With the help of two newly generated deletions from the 57B region, we mapped additional mutants to specific chromosomal intervals and identified several of these mutants from the 57B region molecularly.

Introduction: In patients with severe auditory impairment, partial hearing restoration can be achieved by sensory prostheses for the electrical stimulation of the central nervous system. However, these state-of-the-art approaches suffer from limited spectral resolution: electrical field spread depends on the impedance of the surrounding medium, impeding spatially focused electrical stimulation in neural tissue. To overcome these limitations, optogenetic activation could be applied in such prostheses to achieve enhanced resolution through precise and differential stimulation of nearby neuronal ensembles.

Acute neurologic injuries represent a common cause of morbidity and mortality in children presenting to the pediatric intensive care unit. During brain development of Drosophila melanogaster many transcription factors are involved in regulating neural fate and morphogenesis. In our study we show that the transcription factor Orthopedia (Otp), a member of the 57B homeobox gene cluster, plays an important role in this process. Otp is expressed in a stable pattern in defined lineages from mid-embryonic stages into the adult brain and therefore a very stable marker for these lineages.

Aims: Tibial plateau fractures are serious injuries about the knee that have the potential to affect patients' long-term function. To our knowledge, this is the first study to use patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with a musculoskeletal focus to assess the long-term outcome, as compared to a short-term outcome baseline, of tibial plateau fractures treated using modern techniques.

Alterations in inhibitory circuits of the primary auditory cortex (pAC) have been shown to be an aspect of aging and age-related hearing loss (AHL). Several studies reported a decline in parvalbumin (PV) immunoreactivity in aged rodent pAC of animals displaying AHL and conclude a relationship between reduced sensitivity and declined PV immunoreactivity. However, it remains elusive whether AHL or a general molecular aging is causative for decreased PV immunoreactivity.
