View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the global leading cause of lower respiratory tract infection in infants. Nearly 30% of all infected infants develop severe disease including bronchiolitis, but susceptibility mechanisms remain unclear.
Methods: We infected a panel of 30 inbred strains of mice with RSV and measured changes in lung disease parameters 1 and 5days post-infection and they were used in genome-wide association (GWA) studies to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) and susceptibility gene candidates.
The ACR and the Society of Breast Imaging have revised the curriculum for resident and fellow education in breast imaging on the basis of substantial changes in breast imaging practice since the initial curriculum was published in 2000. This curriculum provides guidance to academic chairs, residency program directors, and academic section chiefs in assessing and improving their residency and fellowship training programs and indicates to residents and breast imaging fellows the topics they need to learn and the experience they should try to acquire during their training. Radiologists already in practice also may find the curriculum useful in outlining the material they need to know to remain up to date in the practice of breast imaging.

Materials And Methods: A 21-question survey prepared by the ACR was sent to most medical physicists who perform evaluations of mammographic units. Replies were received from 1,011 individuals.
During ovariohysterectomy of a 6-month-old domestic shorthair cat, extravasated blood appeared brown. Methemoglobinemia was considered likely on the basis of discoloration of oxygenated blood. The absence of clinical signs of toxicosis, inability to identify a source of oxidant that could cause methemoglobinemia, and persistence of cyanotic-appearing tongue and mucous membranes in this cat made a drug-induced cause unlikely, and was suggestive of a congenital disorder.

Phototimer response was studied as a function of patient thickness, kVp, field size, and exposure time. Each system demonstrated a sufficient range of sensitivity to produce acceptable film densities with all screens using an average-sized phantom; three systems produced overexposures of thin phantoms with almost all screens.
