Feasibility of Mental Health Triage Call Priority Prediction Using Machine Learning.

Background: Optimum efficiency and responsiveness to callers of mental health helplines can only be achieved if call priority is accurately identified. Currently, call operators making a triage assessment rely heavily on their clinical judgment and experience. Due to the significant morbidity and mortality associated with mental illness, there is an urgent need to identify callers to helplines who have a high level of distress and need to be seen by a clinician who can offer interventions for treatment.

Head-orienting behaviors during simultaneous speech detection and localization.

Head movement plays a vital role in auditory processing by contributing to spatial awareness and the ability to identify and locate sound sources. Here we investigate head-orienting behaviors using a dual-task experimental paradigm to measure: (a) localization of a speech source; and (b) detection of meaningful speech (numbers), within a complex acoustic background. Ten younger adults with normal hearing and 20 older adults with mild-to-severe sensorineural hearing loss were evaluated in the free field on two head-movement conditions: (1) head fixed to the front and (2) head moving to a source location; and two context conditions: (1) with audio only or (2) with audio plus visual cues.

Prophylactic cosyntropin after unintentional dural puncture and incidence of post-dural puncture headache and epidural blood patch use: A retrospective cohort study (2019-2022).

Background: Cosyntropin has been suggested to decrease the incidence of post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) by increasing the production of cerebrospinal fluid. This study examined the association of prophylactic cosyntropin administration with the incidence of PDPH and its management with an epidural blood patch after an unintentional dural puncture (UDP).

Characterising HIV-1 transmission in Victoria, Australia: a molecular epidemiological study.

Background: In Australia the incidence of HIV has declined steadily, yet sustained reduction of HIV transmission in this setting requires improved public health responses. As enhanced public health responses and prioritisation of resources may be guided by molecular epidemiological data, here we aimed to assess the applicability of these approaches in Victoria, Australia.

Theories of auditory and visual scene analysis suggest the perception of scenes relies on the identification and segregation of objects within it, resembling a detail-oriented processing style. However, a more global process may occur while analyzing scenes, which has been evidenced in the visual domain. It is our understanding that a similar line of research has not been explored in the auditory domain; therefore, we evaluated the contributions of high-level global and low-level acoustic information to auditory scene perception.

Perinatal Depression Treatment Guidelines for Obstetric Providers.

Perinatal depression is the occurrence of depressive symptoms during the antenatal or postnatal period with an annual incidence of 10% to 20%. The consequences of untreated perinatal depression are significant and include negative impacts on maternal health, pregnancy outcomes, and maternal-infant outcomes. The purpose of this article is to provide perinatal pharmacologic and psychological treatment information to help first-line providers more confidently manage depression in the perinatal period.
