Head Injury Assessment in the Elite Level Rugby Union in Japan: Review of 3 Seasons.

Head Injury Assessment (HIA) is the screening tool for head injury during a rugby game. The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiology of HIA in the Japan Rugby Top League (JRTL). The incidences of HIA, defined concussion (per 1,000 player-hours) and repeated concussions were evaluated in three seasons (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19; total 360 games).

Spectator medicine at an international mega sports event: Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.

Background: The Rugby World Cup (RWC) is one of the biggest international mega sports events in the world. This study was conducted to identify and evaluate the volume, nature, and severity of spectator medical care in the stadiums of 12 venues across Japan during RWC 2019.

Method: This was a retrospective review of medical records from spectator medical rooms of 45 official matches of RWC 2019 between September 20 and November 2, 2019.

Mechanism of introduction of exogenous genes into cultured cells using DEAE-dextran-MMA graft copolymer as non-viral gene carrier.

Comparative investigations were carried out regarding the efficiency of introduction of exogenous genes into cultured cells using a cationic polysaccharide DEAE-dextran-MMA (methyl methacrylate ester) graft copolymer (2-diethylaminoethyl-dextran-methyl methacrylate graft copolymer; DDMC) as a nonviral carrier for gene introduction. The results confirmed that the gene introduction efficiency was improved with DDMC relative to DEAE-dextran. Comparative investigations were carried out using various concentrations of DDMC and DNA in the introduction of DNA encoding luciferase (pGL3 control vector; Promega) into COS-7 cells derived from African green monkey kidney cells.

Effects of blood and virus-infected blood on protein expression in the midgut of the dengue vector Aedes albopictus.

Although the mosquito midgut is the primary site of bloodmeal storage and the first line of defence against pathogenic infection, little is known about its proteic composition at a time when an increasing number of proteins are reported to impair viral infection. Aedes albopictus Skuse (Diptera: Culicidae) is an important vector of the dengue virus. We compared 2-dimensional protein profiles of the adult midgut in this species, taking into account bloodmeal status.

Metastatic carcinoma in a transposed ovary after radical hysterectomy for a stage 1B cervical adenosquamous cell carcinoma. Case report.

A 41-year-old multigravida woman presented with a cervical stage 1b adenosquamous cell carcinoma with metastasis in a transposed ovary. Twenty-four months following a radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer a CT scan revealed a mass measuring 7x6x4 cm in size lateral to the ascending colon. The pathological diagnosis showed the mass to be metastatic adenocarcinoma in the transposed ovary which was considered to be adenocarcinoma from the previous cervical adenosquamous cell carcinoma.

Combined antiproliferative activity of 5-fluorouracil and mitomycin-C against primary human ovarian tumors and cell lines in a clonogenic assay.

Ovarian tumors from 389 patients were successfully grown in a human tumor clonogenic assay (HTCA). Specimens from patients with or without prior chemotherapy showed similar chemosensitivity patterns. Effects of combination treatment with human recombinant alpha-2b interferon (IFN-alpha 2b) and gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) and sequencing of the combination on colony formation of human tumor cells were studied in a human tumor clonogenic assay (HTCA) with or without ascites-associated macrophages (AAM). Five different human tumor cell lines were studied. Three of the five cell lines (ovarian cancer cell line BG-1, cervical cancer cell line ME-180, and melanoma cell line SK-MEL 28) were sensitive to both IFNs.
