Optical camera communication (OCC) provides license-free communication channels without radio waves. The rolling shutter mechanism is expected to enhance the capacity of wireless links in OCC. However, signal erasure occurs due to waiting times between frames in consecutive signal transmission.

Consequently, biofilms formed by interactions of different species have been shown to delay the wound healing process. Studies suggest these mixed-population infections contribute to the development of drug resistance and inhibition of host immune response.

In particular, a low-density culture of primary hippocampal neurons allows the study of individual neurons or subcellular components. We have shown subcellular protein localization within a neuron by immunocytochemistry, neuronal polarity, synaptic morphology, and its developmental change using a low-density primary hippocampal culture.

Produce prescriptions that provide vouchers to individuals to purchase fresh FVs at a specified retail outlet have the potential to positively impact food security status, diet, and chronic disease risk. However, maximizing program participation is vital to ensuring program success. This research describes motivators, barriers, and support for participation in a child produce prescription program among a population of Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders, who are underrepresented in this field of research.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThird-degree burns typically result in pronounced scarring and contraction in superficial and deep tissues. Established techniques such as debridement and grafting provide benefit in the acute phase of burn therapy, nevertheless, scar and contraction remain a challenge in deep burns management. Our ambition is to evaluate the effectiveness of novel cell-based therapies, which can be implemented into the standard of care debridement and grafting procedures.

Objective: The objective of this study is to assess changes in the dimensions of the food system and consumption associated with body weight variations during the first month's lockdown in Peruvian adults in Metropolitan Lima.
Methods: A cross-sectional study conducted during the first months of lockdowns in Peru. 694 adults completed a web-based survey about changes experienced in the process of acquiring food during lockdown, changes in their intake and self-perceived body weight.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to use an in vivo biofilm porcine model to examine a new polyvinyl alcohol-based gelling fibre dressing with silver and compare it to other commercial dressings containing: polyvinyl alcohol-based gelling fibre without silver; carboxymethyl cellulose-based fibre with silver, benzethonium chloride and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; and untreated control.
Methods: A total of 52 deep partial-thickness wounds (10x7x0.5mm) were created on each of three animals and inoculated with 25µl of meticillin-resistant (MRSA) (10 colony forming units (CFU)/ml).
Candida albicans is a common cause of opportunistic mycoses worldwide and a major contributor in wound infections. The purpose of this study was to establish a fungal wound model and analyze the effects of a common antifungal agent against the proliferation of three C. albicans strains.

Aim: We performed this study to provide an accurate evaluation of the safety of CSP for Ip polyps.
Methods: This is a prospective study (UMIN000035687).
Background: Wound cleansing is an important component of wound management.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of a wound management solution (WMS) containing hypochlorous acid (HOCl) on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and healing when used in conjunction with debridement.
Methods: Nineteen (19) deep reticular dermal wounds (22 mm × 22 mm × 3 mm deep) were created on the paravertebral and thoracic areas of 3 female pigs using a specialized electrokeratome.
Both acute and chronic cutaneous wounds are often difficult to treat due to the high-risk for bacterial contamination. Once hospitalized, open wounds are at a high-risk for developing hospital-associated infections caused by multi drug-resistant bacteria such as and . Treating these infections is challenging, not only because of antibiotic resistance, but also due to the production of biofilms.

However, the use of this hydrogel is challenging due to its favorable properties for microbiota growth. The association with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) as an antimicrobial agent turns the match for PVA as a dressing, as it focuses on creating a physical barrier to avoid wound dehydration.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA variety of wound matrix materials that are designed to help heal both acute and chronic wounds are currently available. Because wounds often encounter opportunistic microbes that can delay healing, the effectiveness of these materials is often suboptimal, resulting in delayed or compromised wound healing. The importance of reducing and controlling wound microbes is well recognised and there are several antimicrobial options available to address this unmet clinical need.

Patient-derived tumor organoid (PDO) and patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDX) models have been previously established from different types of human tumors to recapitulate accurately and efficiently their tissue architecture and function. However, these models have low throughput and are challenging to construct.

These children experience little intake of fresh fruits and vegetables (FV), a risk factor for chronic disease, including obesity. Produce prescription programs provide vouchers to purchase fresh FV at participating retailers.

One potential biomarker is the myelin basic protein. Here, a nanoimmunosensor based on atomic force spectroscopy (AFS) successfully detected autoantibodies against the MBP peptide from myelin basic protein.

A precise diagnosis for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) is crucial to improve patients' prognostic, which requires highly specific and sensitive tests. The cell-based assay with a sensitivity of 76% and specificity of 100% is the most recommended test to detect anti-aquaporin-4 antibodies (AQP4-Ab). Here, we tested four AQP4 external loop peptides (AQP4, AQP4, AQP4, and AQP4) with an atomic force microscopy nanoimmunosensor to develop a diagnostic assay.

Patient-derived tumor organoids (PDOs) represent a promising preclinical cancer model that better replicates disease, compared with traditional cell culture models. We have established PDOs from various human tumors to accurately and efficiently recapitulate the tissue architecture and function. Molecular targeted therapies with remarkable efficacy are currently in use against various tumors.
