Article Synopsis
  • - Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), a viral condition affecting cattle, has spread across Asia since its emergence in October 2020, causing economic losses in regions like Vietnam.
  • - The study collected blood samples from 180 cattle in the Mekong Delta to analyze the LSD virus and its genetic material, specifically the GPCR gene, to understand its evolutionary relationship with other strains.
  • - Results showed that LSDV was present in 8.33% of the samples, revealing genetic similarities with strains from China and Northern Vietnam, suggesting that regional monitoring and control measures are crucial for effective disease management.

  • Family health history (FHH) is very important for understanding health problems in families, but Vietnam didn't have a good way to record it.
  • A new tool called "Gia Su Suc Khoe" (GSSK) was made to help people easily collect their family health info and check disease risks.
  • The tool got great reviews from doctors, with everyone saying it worked well, and it can really help improve healthcare in Vietnam!

We conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to clarify the trend of precocious puberty (PP) incidence after the COVID-19 outbreak and explore potential contributing factors, such as age at presentation and body mass index standard deviation score (BMI SDS). Children visiting pediatric endocrinology clinics for the first time for suspected PP were included. We searched databases until February 28, 2023 for studies reporting various indicators of PP incidence before and during the pandemic.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at the trends and causes of pneumococcal meningitis in children under 5 in Southern Vietnam after the pentavalent vaccine was introduced in the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).
  • Over a 10-year period, 2560 suspected cases were reviewed, with only 158 (6.2%) confirmed as bacterial meningitis, mainly caused by a specific pathogen.
  • The research found a significant drop in pneumococcal meningitis due to vaccine serotypes, suggesting that policymakers should consider adding pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) to immunization programs to better control this disease.

Natural killer (NK) cells recognize virally infected cells and tumors. NK cell function depends on balanced signaling from activating receptors, recognizing products from tumors or viruses, and inhibitory receptors (such as KIR/Ly49), which recognize major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) molecules. KIR/Ly49 signaling preserves tolerance to self but also conveys reactivity toward MHC-I-low target cells in a process known as NK cell education.

Dengue is classified as an endemic infectious disease, which is transmitted by Aedes mosquitos. Kinetic studies, which monitor the viral load of the disease, have been the mainstay for several decades in humanity's quest to control this disease. Our study aims to systematically evaluate the usage of different timing systems in dengue kinetic studies.

Ascorbic acid, widely known as vtamin C, is an essential nutrient for animals such as poultry. Ascorbic acid in poultry feed improves animal health and thus increases the growth performance of birds. Ascorbic acid can be used in the form of synthetic products or can be naturally obtained from fruits and plants.

Background: Tuberculous meningitis (TBM), manifests as the most severe involvement of the nervous system by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it has a high mortality rate and a spectrum of systemic and neurological complications that can lead to debilitating or fatal sequelae, whereas hyponatremia is the commonly encountered life-threatening electrolyte disturbance. Thus, our study aimed to determine the prevalence, risk factors and differences in outcomes of hyponatremia in TBM.

Methods: This systematic review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42018088089).

Kinesio taping is widely used in musculoskeletal conditions. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy of kinesio taping in musculoskeletal disorders compared to other interventions. Twelve electronic databases were used for systemic search and data relevant to pain and disability were extracted.

Genome-wide analysis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) strains is essential to better understand infectivity and virulence and to track coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and outbreaks. We performed whole-genome sequencing of 27 SARS-CoV-2 strains isolated between January 2020 and April 2020. A total of 54 mutations in different genomic regions was found.

Objectives Neonatal dengue has been reported in the literature with contradictory findings of clinical characteristics and diagnosis; thereby, misdiagnosis of neonatal dengue has been frequently reported. We aim to delve into the epidemiology, clinical features, and outcomes of neonatal dengue, thus avoid misdiagnosis and obtain early intervention. Study design A retrospective study was conducted at Children's Hospital 1, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam with laboratory-confirmed dengue in neonates by positive viral antigen nonstructural protein one rapid test (NS1) and positive IgM antibody for dengue by MAC-ELISA.

We describe the status of the COVID-19 epidemic in Vietnam, major response successes, factors that prompted implementation of certain public health actions, and the impact of these actions. In addition, information for three case studies is reported, with crucial learnings to inform future response. Findings from this study suggest that as early as 20 January 2020, Vietnam held a national risk assessment, established a national COVID-19 Response Plan and Technical Treatment and Care Guidelines, and prepared public health laboratories to accurately diagnose cases and hospitals to effectively treat patients.

Background: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disorder classified into four types based on the age of onset of the disease. Early onset is correlated with a higher mortality rate, mainly due to respiratory complications. Valproic acid (VPA) is a histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor that has shown positive results on SMA both in experimental and cohort studies.

Background: In Vietnam, malaria persists in remote forested regions where infections are spatially heterogeneous, mostly asymptomatic and with low parasite density. Previous studies in Vietnam have investigated broad behavioural concepts such as 'engaging in forest activities' as risk factors for malaria infection, which may not explain heterogeneity in malaria risk, especially in malaria elimination settings.

Methods: A mixed methods study combining ethnographic research and a cross-sectional survey was embedded in a 1-year malariometric cohort study in three ethnic minority villages in South Tra My district, Quang Nam Province in Central Vietnam.

Nanofabrication of polymeric micelles through self-assembly of an ionic block copolymer and oppositely charged small molecules has recently emerged as a promising method of formulating delivery systems. The present study therefore aimed to investigate the interaction of cationic drugs doxorubicin (DOX) and mitoxantrone (MTX) with the anionic block polymer poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly(acrylic acid) (PEO-b-PAA) and to study the influence of these interactions on the pharmacokinetic stability and antitumor potential of the formulated micelles in clinically relevant animal models. To this end, individual DOX and MTX-loaded polyelectrolyte complex micelles (PCM) were prepared, and their physicochemical properties and pH-responsive release profiles were studied.
