In this study, we investigated the possibility of a photocatalytic system that uses graphene-quantum-dot (GQD)-deposited graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) to treat tetracycline (TC) and other organic compounds generated from an in-situ-recirculatory-aquaculture-system (RAS)-like shrimp farming pond. GQDs were successfully deposited on the exfoliated g-C3N4 base through a hydrothermal treatment. The results showed that the incorporation of GQDs into the g-C3N4 enhanced its porosity without aggregating its mesoporous structure.

HIV-1 infection causes severe alterations of gut mucosa, microbiota and immune system, which can be curbed by early antiretroviral therapy. Here, we investigate how treatment timing affects intestinal memory B-cell and plasmablast repertoires of HIV-1-infected humans. We show that only class-switched memory B cells markedly differ between subjects treated during the acute and chronic phases of infection.

Congenital abnormalities of the iliac artery are uncommon and often discovered incidentally during the diagnosis or treatment of peripheral vascular diseases such as abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and peripheral arterial diseases. The endovascular treatment of infrarenal AAA can be complicated by anatomic abnormalities in the iliac arteries, such as the absence of the common iliac artery (CIA) or overly short bilateral common iliac arteries. We present a case of a patient with a ruptured AAA and bilateral absence of the CIA, successfully treated by endovascular intervention combined with preservation of the internal iliac artery using the sandwich technique.

Background: Coronary artery fistulas (CAFs), also, known as coronary arteriovenous malformation, are aberrant connections between coronary arteries and other structures, such as other artery branches or heart chambers. CAFs are infrequent and asymptomatic in young patients, but symptoms and complications become more frequent with age. CAFs can affect hemodynamic parameters and lead to complications, such as myocardial ischemia, heart failure, arrhythmia, and infective endocarditis.

This work presents the preparation of bioactive glasses 70SiO-(26 - )CaO-4PO-AgO (with = 0, 1, 3, 10 mol%) by a modified sol-gel method with reduced synthesis time based on hydrothermal reaction in a medium without acid or base catalysts. The synthetic materials were characterized by several physical-chemical techniques such as TG-DSC, XRD, SEM, TEM, and N adsorption/desorption measurement. The analysis data confirmed that the glass sample not containing Ag has a completely amorphous structure, while glass samples containing Ag exhibited a pure phase of metallic nano-silver in the glass amorphous phase.
