Thanks to the introduction of virtual surgical planning (VSP), mandibular reconstruction using a fibula flap has become simplified, and patient-specific reconstruction is now possible. With a VSP software, surgical "cutting guides" and custom-made titanium plates can be designed to help surgeons. However, they are expensive and require extended periods of time either for prototyping or to acquire the advanced knowledge necessary for operating the VSP software.

Acute Stage Longitudinal Change of Quality of Life from Pre- to 3 Months after Surgical Treatment in Head and Neck Cancer Patients.

Purpose: Head and neck cancer (HNC) patients experience various posttreatment side effects that decrease quality of life (QOL). Some previous study reported that QOL of HHC patients were returned baseline (before treatment) after a year post treatment. In the present study, the antitumor activity of a herbal product derived from the was examined, using assays in a human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) cell line. Results showed that root extract at the concentration of 100 g/ml inhibited monolayer- and anchorage-independent growth in human OSCC cell lines, while not affecting the adhering abilities of cells.

The superior colliculus (SC) contains two major subdivisions, the superficial layers (sSC) and the deeper layers (dSC). sSC receives visual information from the retina and visual cortex, while dSC sends descending projections to the brainstem and spinal cord. It has not been clear whether and how sSC directly activates dSC, however recent studies in slice preparations reported that electrical stimulation of sSC induces burst firing in dSC neurons after application of bicuculline.
