Temporal changes in carrier relaxations, magnetic switching, and biological structures are known to be in the order of ns. These phenomena can be typically measured by means of an optical-pump & electron-probe method using an electron microscope combined with a pulsed electron source. A photoemission-type pulsed electron gun makes it possible to obtain a short-pulsed electron beam required for high temporal resolution.

In-depth proteomic profiling of the normal human kidney glomerulus using two-dimensional protein prefractionation in combination with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

The kidney glomerulus plays a pivotal role in ultrafiltration of plasma into urine and also is the locus of kidney disease progressing to chronic renal failure. We have focused proteomic analysis on the glomerulus that is most proximal to the disease locus. In the present study, we aimed to provide a confident, in-depth profiling of the glomerulus proteome.

Primary gastrointestinal stromal tumor in the retroperitoneum.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is the most frequent non-epithelial neoplasm in the gastrointestinal tract. GIST has received much attention both for its clinical significance and biological nature, while the retroperitoneal condition identical to GIST has been rarely described. Presented herein is a case of GIST arising from the retroperitoneum in a 67-year-old man.

A case of preclinical Cushing's syndrome associated with diurnal rhythms of ACTH and cortisol in blood: correlation with histological findings.

We describe a case of adrenocortical adenoma with preclinical Cushing's syndrome demonstrating diurnal rhythms of ACTH and cortisol in blood. A 50-year-old man was admitted to the hospital for the evaluation of incidental right adrenal mass with hyperglycemia and hypertension. On admission, there were no signs of clinical manifestation of hypercortisolism.

[Intermittent oral hormonal chemotherapy using estramustine phosphate and etoposide for the treatment of hormone-refractory prostate cancer].

Seventeen patients were given lower dose and intermittent oral administration of estramustine phosphate (6 mg/kg/day) and etoposide (30 mg/m2/day) for 7 days. Then administration was discontinued for 7 days. This administration cycle was repeated.

Four cases of pheochromocytoma in patients with end-stage renal disease.

Although pheochromocytoma in a patient with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is considered extremely rare, we recently encountered 4 ESRD patients with pheochromocytoma. Three were symptomatic, and in the fourth patient the tumor was discovered as an adrenal incidentaloma. Plasma catecholamine levels were significantly increased in two patients.

[A case of lipoleiomyosarcoma of the spermatic cord].

A 54-year-old male was referred to our hospital with the chief complaint of a painless inguinal mass. A hard mass was palpable beside the left spermatic cord, which was covered with a soft tissue mass. Computed tomographic scan showed an inguinal mass, which was well enhanced to vascular density.
