Arterial chemoembolisation with cisplatin versus epirubicin for hepatocellular carcinoma (ACE 500 study): A multicentre, randomised controlled phase 2/3 trial.

Background: Transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE) is a treatment option for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the optimum agent for TACE remains unclear. We compared the efficacy of TACE with cisplatin versus with epirubicin in patients with unresectable HCC.

Methods: This multicentre, randomised, phase 2/3 trial was performed at 21 hospitals in Japan.

Effect of tolvaptan on the prognosis of patients with hepatic ascites.

Aim: Despite accumulating evidence concerning the efficacy of tolvaptan in the treatment of body fluid retention or hyponatremia, the effect of tolvaptan on the prognosis of patients with hepatic ascites has not been fully investigated.

Methods: A total of 628 patients with hepatic ascites who were treated with diuretics (furosemide, spironolactone, or tolvaptan) between 2007 and 2017 were enrolled and divided into two groups: those who received tolvaptan (original tolvaptan group, n = 278) and those who did not (original control group, n = 350). The cumulative survival rates between the groups were compared and the factors associated with survival in patients with hepatic ascites were identified using a Cox regression analysis.

[A case of gastric endocrine cell carcinoma with liver metastasis showing rapid growth during pregnancy and marked reduction by systemic chemotherapy after delivery].

A 28-year-old woman was given a diagnosis of gastric endocrine cell carcinoma with multiple liver metastases in 1997. Chemotherapy was administered for treatment after a distal gastrectomy and hepatic tumor resection, and she had shown no sign of relapse after 2002. In February 2004, she was in the third month of pregnancy, and experienced recurrent liver metastasis.
