Early cancer detection is critical for effective treatment. N-NOSE (Nematode-NOSE) is a simple, inexpensive, and highly sensitive cancer screening method based on the chemotaxis of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, which shows evasive action from the urine of healthy individuals while being attracted to the urine of cancer patients. Initially, N-NOSE relied on chemotaxis indexes obtained with 10-fold dilutions of urine samples.

Unique MRI findings for differentiation of an early stage of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis.

CT scan and ultrasonography images revealed two small uniformly low-density and hypoechoic lesions in the liver, respectively, 7 years after curative resection of rectal cancer, in a 74-year-old man. The area of the liver including the two lesions was segmentally resected. Two lesions were histopathologically confirmed as early but active stage alveolar echinococcosis (AE) caused by accidental ingestion of eggs of the fox tapeworm, Echinococcus multilocularis.

An invasive extragastrointestinal stromal tumor curably resected following imatinib treatment.

Extragastrointestinal stromal tumors (EGISTs) are rare tumors located outside the gastrointestinal tract. While curable resection is accepted as a noninvasive EGIST treatment, the therapeutic strategy for invasive EGISTs has not yet been established. The present report is the first to show a case of invasive EGIST completely resected after downsizing the tumor with imatinib treatment.
