Several guidelines for urticaria and angioedema have been published in Europe and United States since 1997. General principles for diagnosis and treatments of them are similar. However, each guideline has its own characteristics and shows differences in areas such as the coverage of urticaria subtypes, nomenclatures, and hierarchy of the medications.

Mizoribine is a newly developed immunosuppressive agent that has low toxicity. The pharmacological effects of mizoribine are similar to those of another purine biosynthesis inhibitor, mycophenolate mofetil.

However, the mechanism by which fucoidan suppresses IgE production remains unclear.

Objective: To determine the anti-pruritic efficacy of topical tacrolimus in treating AD in induction and maintenance therapy.
Methods: Prior to the study, patients were randomly allocated into two groups, induction therapy followed by tacrolimus monotherapy maintenance, and induction therapy followed by emollient-only maintenance.
We previously reported that about 80 % of patients with atopic dermatitis and 60 % with cholinergic urticaria revealed type I allergy against sweat, by means of skin test against autologous sweat and/or histamine-release test for peripheral blood basophils with semi-purified sweat antigen. In this study, we developed an assay for sera to neutralize histamine-releasing activity of semi-purified sweat antigen. The semi-purified sweat antigen was pre-incubated with serially diluted sera for 30 min at 37 °C and was subjected to histamine-release activity.

Methods: To clarify the relation between WDEIA and HWP-containing soap and their prognosis, we investigated the patients who visited Hiroshima University Hospital and were diagnosed as WDEIA from January 2010 to June 2011. We took detailed clinical histories, performed skin prick tests, serum immunoassays for antigen-specific IgE and basophil histamine release test, and followed up their clinical courses after the diagnosis.
ATR (ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3 related) is an essential regulator of genome integrity. It controls and coordinates DNA-replication origin firing, replication-fork stability, cell-cycle checkpoints, and DNA repair. Previously, autosomal-recessive loss-of-function mutations in ATR have been demonstrated in Seckel syndrome, a developmental disorder.

We previously demonstrated that surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor could detect the activation of human basophils in response to antigens. In this study, we further developed a technique based on SPR imaging (SPRI) system to detect reactions of individual basophils isolated from human blood, and investigated the potential of this sensor as a tool for diagnosis of type I allergy.

We previously reported that the activation of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on keratinocytes causes a unique triphasic change of AR, whereas the activation of other receptors, such as IgE receptor and adenosine A3 receptor on mast cells, causes a transient monophasic increase of AR. To study the mechanism of AR changes induced by EGFR activation, we introduced wild and mutated EGFR cDNAs into Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells and analyzed changes of AR in response to EGF.

This review gives an update of current knowledge on the clinical pleiomorphism of Leishmania, with a special emphasis on the case of asymptomatic carriage. The first part describes the numerous unusual expressions of the disease that occur besides the classic (visceral, cutaneous, and mucocutaneous) forms of leishmaniases. The second part deals with progress in the understanding of disease outcome in humans, and the possible future approaches to improve our knowledge in the field.

Many different mutations in the C1-INH gene have been identified as a cause of HAE. We investigated the molecular basis of the disease in a Japanese woman with sporadic HAE.

H(1)-receptor antagonists may reduce symptoms of DU to some extent, but other treatments being used for chronic spontaneous urticaria, such as H(2)-receptor antagonists and corticosteroids, are not usually effective for DU.
Case Summary: We here report six cases of antihistamine-resistant DU treated with oral ciclosporin.
Leishmania species of the subgenus Viannia and especially Leishmania Viannia guyanensis are responsible for a large proportion of New World leishmaniasis cases. Since a recent publication on Leishmania Viannia braziliensis, the debate on the mode of reproduction of Leishmania parasites has been reopened. A predominant endogamic reproductive mode (mating with relatives), together with strong Wahlund effects (sampling of strains from heterogeneous subpopulations), was indeed evidenced.

The infected animal had a cutaneous ulcer on the nose and nodules of different sizes in the ears. The diagnosis was confirmed by molecular analysis of cutaneous samples that detected the presence of Leishmania parasites and allowed identifying the Leishmania (Viannia) braziliensis species.

Nevertheless, dogs infected with L. infantum were recently found in the Mont Rolland District in Senegal.
