Introduction: Preoperative anemia and high red cell distribution width (RDW) are associated with higher perioperative mortality. Conditions with high RDW levels can be categorized by mean corpuscular volume (MCV). The relationship between RDW, anemia and MCV may explain causality between high RDW levels and outcomes.

Introduction: We describe a patient with an unusual presentation of an isolated hypoglossal nerve palsy as a result of perineural invasion (PI) from adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). We will also discuss the diagnostic pitfalls as well as present a short literature review of adenoid cystic carcinomas and suggest improvement to the current diagnostic algorithm for isolated hypoglossal nerve palsies.

With breast cancer awareness, the incidence of large invasive tumours is rare. We present a video of locally advanced breast cancer invading the anterior chest wall requiring en bloc resection that resulted in a large chest wall defect with exposed pleural and pericardial surface. Skeletal reconstruction and provision of adequate soft tissue coverage in order to avoid respiratory failure was challenging.
