Background: The impact of kidney transplantation (KT) on left ventricular (LV) remodeling remains poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of KT on LV reverse remodeling, utilizing echocardiographic LV geometric patterns as a key assessment tool.

Methods: In 100 recipients who underwent living KT between 2012 and 2022, we evaluated changes in the distribution of LV geometric patterns (normal geometry, concentric remodeling, eccentric hypertrophy, and concentric hypertrophy) between baseline and 1 year post-transplantation.

Unlabelled: Fulminant type 1 diabetes (FT1D) is a rapidly progressive form of diabetes in which the endogenous capacity to secrete insulin is depleted. The onset is unpredictable with conventional FT1D, and a few reports have tracked C-peptide in patients with conventional FT1D pre-onset. In this report, we present two typical cases of conventional FT1D where C-peptide was monitored from the onset of precursor symptoms to the development of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA).

Most of the modern natural language processing (NLP) techniques are based on the vector space models of language, in which each word is represented by a vector in a high dimensional space. One of the earliest successes was demonstrated by the four-term analogical reasoning task: what is to C as B is to A? The trained word vectors form "parallelograms" representing the quadruple of words in analogy. This discovery in NLP offers us insight into our understanding of human semantic representation of words via analogical reasoning.

When we interact with objects using our hands, we derive their size through our skin. Prolonged exposure to an object leads to a perceptual size aftereffect: adapting to a larger/smaller object makes a subsequently perceived object to appear smaller/larger than its actual size. This phenomenon has been described as haptic as tactile sensations with kinesthetic feedback are involved.

Triplet-triplet annihilation photon upconversion (TTA-UC) is attracting a great deal of attention as a viable approach to exploit unutilized wavelengths of light in solar-driven devices. Recently, ligand-protected metal nanoclusters have emerged as a compelling platform for serving as triplet sensitizers for TTA-UC. In this study, we developed an atomically precise, triplet-mediator ligand (TL)-protected metal nanocluster, AuCu(S-Adm)[P(DPA)] (; S-Adm = 1-adamanthanethiolate, DPA = 9,10-diphenylanthracene).

Protocol for the nationwide registry of patients with polycystic kidney disease: japanese national registry of PKD (JRP).

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) are major genetic polycystic kidney diseases that can progress to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Longitudinal data on the clinical characteristics associated with clinical outcomes in polycystic kidney disease (PKD), including the development of ESKD and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are lacking in Japan. To address this unmet need the authors are establishing a novel, web-based, Nationwide Cohort Registry Study-the Japanese Registry of PKD (JRP).

Glycemic variability is associated with sural nerve conduction velocity in outpatients with type 2 diabetes: Usefulness of a new point-of-care device for nerve conduction studies.

Aims/introduction: Although several studies have shown the association between continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-derived glycemic variability (GV) and diabetic peripheral neuropathy, no studies have focused on outpatients or used NC-stat®/DPNCheck™, a new point-of-care device for nerve conduction study (NCS). We investigated the association between CGM-derived GV and NCS using DPNCheck™ in outpatients with type 2 diabetes, and further analyzed the difference in results between patients with and without well-controlled HbA1c levels.

Materials And Methods: All outpatients with type 2 diabetes using the CGM device (FreeStyle Libre Pro®) between 2017 and 2022 were investigated.

To achieve appropriate blood pressure control in the treatment of hypertension in Japan, this study examined the relationship between office blood pressure and actual antihypertensive drug use in general hospitals following the promulgation of the guidelines for hypertension (JSH2019). This study focused on blood pressure levels and drug use in outpatients on antihypertensive treatment from June to July 2020. The subjects were 2,537 patients classified into four groups based on their medical history, patients with: hypertension only; hypertension and cardiovascular disease; hypertension and dyslipidaemia; and hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

Background: Intramuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) formation derived from muscle fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) has been recognized as a pathological feature of sarcopenia. This study aimed to explore whether genetic and pharmacological gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP) receptor antagonism suppresses IMAT accumulation and ameliorates sarcopenia in mice.

Methods: Whole body composition, grip strength, skeletal muscle weight, tibialis anterior (TA) muscle fibre cross-sectional area (CSA) and TA muscle IMAT area were measured in young and aged male C57BL/6 strain GIP receptor (Gipr)-knockout (Gipr ) and wild-type (Gipr ) mice.

Management of patients after total knee arthroplasty using mechanical prophylaxis and reduced doses of edoxaban: A retrospective cohort study.

Objective: Edoxaban is given as pharmacologic prophylaxis alone or in combination with mechanical prophylaxis for venous thromboembolism after total knee arthroplasty. Several choices are made regarding edoxaban dosages when used in combination with mechanical prophylaxis. This study aimed to compare efficacy and safety in patients who received edoxaban with elastic stockings after total knee arthroplasty between those who received the standard dose, including those who received a reduced dose after meeting dose reduction criteria, and those who received reduced doses without dose reduction criteria.

Olanzapine treatment effectively relieves breakthrough chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting: a real-world experience.

Background: Olanzapine treatment prevents chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC). However, its role in the secondary prevention of breakthrough CINV in real-world cancer care should be further evaluated.

Method: We conducted a retrospective study on patients receiving olanzapine to prevent breakthrough CINV refractory to standard antiemetic therapy.

Atypicalities have been reported for proprioceptive judgments, which are tightly related to internal bodily representations underlying position sense. However, no research has directly investigated whether self-bodily representations are different in individuals with ASD.

Public support for patients with intractable diseases in Japan: impact on clinical indicators from nationwide registries in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.

Background: Clinical practice guidelines recommend antihypertensive and tolvaptan therapies for patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) in Japan. However, tolvaptan therapy may pose an economic burden. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare supports patients with intractable diseases.
