Frontoethmoidal mucocele following pediatric craniofacial surgery.

Background: Mucoceles occur as a result of accumulation and retention of mucous secretions in a paranasal sinus and are uncommon in the pediatric age group. Persistent or intermittent closure of its ostium through a variety of causes, including previous surgery, is implicated in etiology. The authors report 2 cases of frontoethmoidal mucocele that followed box osteotomies for the treatment of orbital dystopia, with medical literature review and discussion of possible causal factors and events.

Case report--an iatrogenic foreign body in the airway.

We report a case of an iatrogenic foreign body in the airway. An 80-year-old patient who had undergone major head and neck surgery several weeks early presented as an inpatient with a persistent cough and recurrent chest infections. Fibreoptic nasendoscopy revealed the presence of a nasopharyngeal airway sitting vertically in the airway.

Evaluation of ApneaGraph in the diagnosis of sleep-related breathing disorders.

ApneaGraph relies on measuring pressure and airflow simultaneously at different levels in the pharynx identifying the segment of airway obstruction and providing baseline respiratory parameters. This study aims to evaluate ApneaGraph and correlate results with both sleep nasendoscopy and polysomnography. This was a prospective study of 49 patients with snoring and/or obstructive sleep apnoea.

Squamous cell carcinoma in the head and neck.

Head and neck cancers are responsible for 10% of male cancers in the UK, and used to be six or seven times more common in men than women. Now these cancers are only about twice as common among men. This article reviews the presentation and management of these cancers.
