Comprehensive Health Assessment 3 Months After Recovery From Acute Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Background: Long-term health sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be multiple but have thus far not been systematically studied.

Methods: All patients discharged after COVID-19 from the Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands, were consecutively invited to a multidisciplinary outpatient facility. Also, nonadmitted patients with mild disease but with symptoms persisting >6 weeks could be referred by general practitioners.

Nivolumab in pre-treated advanced non-small cell lung cancer: long term follow up data from the Dutch expanded access program and routine clinical care.

Background: For advanced non-small cell lung cancer anti-PD-1 treatment has become standard care in first and second line treatment in recent years. Because many of the clinical trials with anti-PD-1 drugs have only recently been completed, long term follow up data of patients treated with these agents is scarce, even more so of patients treated in real life clinical care. We present long term follow up of patients treated with nivolumab.

Genome-wide meta-analysis of brain volume identifies genomic loci and genes shared with intelligence.

The phenotypic correlation between human intelligence and brain volume (BV) is considerable (r ≈ 0.40), and has been shown to be due to shared genetic factors. To further examine specific genetic factors driving this correlation, we present genomic analyses of the genetic overlap between intelligence and BV using genome-wide association study (GWAS) results.

H-WORK Project: Multilevel Interventions to Promote Mental Health in SMEs and Public Workplaces.

The paper describes the study design, research questions and methods of a large, international intervention project aimed at improving employee mental health and well-being in SMEs and public organisations. The study is innovative in multiple ways. First, it goes beyond the current debate on whether individual- or organisational-level interventions are most effective in improving employee health and well-being and tests the cumulative effects of multilevel interventions, that is, interventions addressing individual, group, leader and organisational levels.

Glomerular Endothelial Cells as Instigators of Glomerular Sclerotic Diseases.

Glomerular endothelial cell (GEnC) dysfunction is important in the pathogenesis of glomerular sclerotic diseases, including Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and overt diabetic nephropathy (DN). GEnCs form the first cellular barrier in direct contact with cells and factors circulating in the blood. Disturbances in these circulating factors can induce GEnC dysfunction.

Structural spinal abnormalities on MRI and associations with weight status in a general pediatric population.

Background Context: Several spinal abnormalities have been studied using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, in children these studies were sparsely performed in general populations. Examining young children's spines is important since the shape of the bone is largely determined during the growth spurt.

Career Crafting Training Intervention for Physicians: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Physicians work in a highly demanding work setting where ongoing changes affect their work and challenge their employability (ie, their ability and willingness to continue working). In this high-pressure environment, physicians could benefit from proactively managing or crafting their careers; however, they tend not to show this behavior. The new concept of career crafting concerns proactively making choices and adapting behavior regarding both short-term job design (ie, job crafting) as well as longer-term career development (ie, career self-management).

Basic Motor Skills of Children With Down Syndrome: Creating a Motor Growth Curve.

Purpose: To create a motor growth curve based on the Test of Basic Motor Skills for Children with Down Syndrome (BMS) and estimate the age of achieving BMS milestones.

Methods: A multilevel exponential model was applied to create a motor growth curve based on BMS data from 119 children with Down syndrome (DS) aged 2 months to 5 years. Logistic regression was applied to estimate the 50% probability of achieving BMS milestones.

A continuous responder algorithm to optimize clinical management of small-cell lung cancer with progastrin-releasing peptide as a simple blood test.

This study aimed to investigate whether changes in progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) levels correlate with treatment response and can be used to optimize clinical management of patients with small-cell lung cancer. Patients with small-cell lung cancer (any stage) receiving chemotherapy were eligible. ProGRP was measured in serum/plasma at baseline and after each chemotherapy cycle using the Elecsys ProGRP assay (Roche Diagnostics).

The clinical effectiveness of the COPDnet integrated care model.

Rationale: Integrated care models have the potential to improve outcomes for patients with COPD. We therefore designed the COPDnet integrated care model and implemented it in two hospitals and affiliated primary care regions in the Netherlands. The COPDnet model consists of a comprehensive diagnostic trajectory ran in secondary care followed by a non-pharmacological intervention program of both monodisciplinary and multidisciplinary components.

Potential Receptors for Targeted Imaging of Lymph Node Metastases in Penile Cancer.

Imaging modalities using tumor-directed monoclonal antibodies may be of value to improve the pre- and intraoperative detection and resection of lymph node (LN) metastatic disease in penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC). We investigated the expression of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) to analyze their potency for diagnostic applications. Antigen expression was determined in primary tumors and LNs with and without metastases of 22 patients with PSCC.

Assessing reproductive effects on fish populations: an evaluation of methods to predict the reproductive strategy of fishes.

Many environmental monitoring programs include an assessment of the health of fish populations using a sentinel species and include an indicator of reproductive potential. Knowledge of the reproductive strategy of the fish species is critical for data interpretation but is not always known. The reproductive strategy of a species can be determined from detailed histological analyses of ovaries throughout the reproductive cycle; however, these studies can be costly and can delay the implementation of a monitoring program.

Evidence for Recipient-Derived Cells in Peribiliary Glands and Biliary Epithelium of the Large Donor Bile Ducts After Liver Transplantation.

Introduction: Chimerism after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) has largely been investigated in intrahepatic cellular constituents. However, little is known about chimerism in the extrahepatic and large intrahepatic bile ducts. Our aim was to evaluate the presence and extent of chimerism after OLT in the peribiliary glands (PBG) and the luminal epithelium of the large donor bile ducts.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Connectivity Accurately Distinguishes Cases With Psychotic Disorders From Healthy Controls, Based on Cortical Features Associated With Brain Network Development.

Background: Machine learning (ML) can distinguish cases with psychotic disorder from healthy controls based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, but it is not yet clear which MRI metrics are the most informative for case-control ML, or how ML algorithms relate to the underlying biology.

Methods: We analyzed multimodal MRI data from 2 independent case-control studies of psychotic disorders (cases, n = 65, 28; controls, n = 59, 80) and compared ML accuracy across 5 selected MRI metrics from 3 modalities. Cortical thickness, mean diffusivity, and fractional anisotropy were estimated at each of 308 cortical regions, as well as functional and structural connectivity between each pair of regions.

Background: Prenatal development is a time when the brain is acutely vulnerable to insult and alteration by environmental factors (e.g., toxins, maternal health).

Background: The tumor immune microenvironment is a heterogeneous entity. Gene expression analysis allows us to perform comprehensive immunoprofiling and may assist in dissecting the different components of the immune infiltrate. As gene expression analysis also provides information regarding tumor cells, differences in interactions between the immune system and specific tumor characteristics can also be explored.

The late positive potential (LPP): A neural marker of internalizing problems in early childhood.

Background: One potentially relevant neurophysiological marker of internalizing problems (anxiety/depressive symptoms) is the late positive potential (LPP), as it is related to processing of emotional stimuli. For the first time, to our knowledge, we investigated the value of the LPP as a neurophysiological marker for internalizing problems and specific anxiety and depressive symptoms, at preschool age.

Method: At age 4 years, children (N = 84) passively viewed a series of neutral, pleasant, and unpleasant pictures selected from the International Affective Pictures System.

There is much debate on the use of angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) in severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected patients. Although it has been suggested that ARBs might lead to a higher susceptibility and severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection, experimental data suggest that ARBs may reduce acute lung injury via blocking angiotensin-II-mediated pulmonary permeability, inflammation, and fibrosis. However, despite these hypotheses, specific studies on ARBs in SARS-CoV-2 patients are lacking.

Cumulative pemetrexed dose increases the risk of nephrotoxicity.

Introduction: Pemetrexed is a pharmacotherapeutic cornerstone in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. As it is primarily eliminated by renal excretion, adequate renal function is essential to prevent toxic exposure. There is growing evidence for the nephrotoxic potential of pemetrexed, which even becomes a greater issue now combined immuno-chemotherapy prolongs survival.

Maternal brain in the process of maternal-infant bonding: Review of the literature.

The mother-infant relationship is one of the most important bonds among all mammals and develops when a mother shows emotional and physical attention toward her infant. Studies suggest that maternal brain alterations, including structural and functional changes, may help mothers to form a strong bond with their infant. Investigation of mothers' unique response to her own infant, when smiling, crying or playing, could be the first step to uncover the neural bases of maternal-infant bonding.

Multimodal longitudinal study of structural brain involvement in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Objective: To understand the progressive nature of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) by investigating differential brain patterns of gray and white matter involvement in clinically or genetically defined subgroups of patients using cross-sectional, longitudinal, and multimodal MRI.

Methods: We assessed cortical thickness, subcortical volumes, and white matter connectivity from T1-weighted and diffusion-weighted MRI in 292 patients with ALS (follow-up: n = 150) and 156 controls (follow-up: n = 72). Linear mixed-effects models were used to assess changes in structural brain measurements over time in patients compared to controls.

The Validity and Predictive Value of Blood-Based Biomarkers in Prediction of Response in the Treatment of Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review.

With the introduction of targeted therapies and immunotherapy, molecular diagnostics gained a more profound role in the management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to systematically search for studies reporting on the use of liquid biopsies (LB), the correlation between LBs and tissue biopsies, and finally the predictive value in the management of NSCLC. A systematic literature search was performed, including results published after 1 January 2014.
