Objectives: Many studies showed better outcomes of endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) when compared with percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (P-GBD) in which most tubes were left in situ. However, no studies have directly compared EUS-GBD with P-GBD after tube removal (ex situ). We compared the long-term outcomes of EUS-GBD and ex situ or in situ P-GBD in high surgical risk patients with acute cholecystitis.

The purpose of this study was to define the role of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in patients with a single large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and define the patient groups benefiting from TACE. Treatment-naïve patients with preserved liver function who received TACE as the first-line treatment for single large (>5 cm) HCC without macrovascular invasion and extrahepatic metastasis between 2007 and 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Overall survival, progression-free survival, radiologic tumor response, complications, and predictors of survival were analyzed using multivariate analysis, and then a pretreatment risk-prediction model was created using the four predictive factors of tumor size, tumor type, ALBI grade, and ECOG performance status.

The clinical impact of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in predicting outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) remain unclear, and additional large-scale studies are required. This retrospective study evaluated outcomes in treatment-naïve patients who received TACE as first-line treatment for intermediate-stage HCC between 2008 and 2017. Patients who underwent TACE before and after 2013 were assigned to the development ( = 495) and validation ( = 436) cohorts, respectively.

Background & Aim: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is increasingly being detected at a very early-stage due to the wide implementation of the surveillance of at-risk patient populations combined with improved imaging technologies. Whether patients with HCC at a very early stage can be offered local ablation as a first-line treatment option still remains controversial. We retrospectively compared the effectiveness of surgical resection (SR) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC) very early-stage HCC in patients with long-term follow-up.

Conventional transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (c-TACE) is a widely used first-line palliative treatment for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Despite the effectiveness of c-TACE, to date, technique and procedure scheduling has not yet been standardized. Drug-eluting microspheres (DEMs) were therefore introduced to ensure more sustained and tumor-selective drug delivery for permanent embolization.

Arterioportal fistula (APF) can induce severe portal hypertension and therefore requires appropriate and timely management. Endovascular treatment is increasingly used for the treatment of APFs due to its minimally invasive nature, although this procedure can lead to potentially fatal portal vein thrombosis (PVT). Reports of this complication are, however, rare.
