Healthcare professions faculty at a private Midwestern university designed an Interprofessional Education (IPE) Week, consisting of 12 different interprofessional learning activities over the span of one week. The purpose of the study was to determine students' perceptions toward interprofessional healthcare, as measured by the Student Perceptions of Interprofessional Clinical Education-Revised (SPICE-R), one week before and one week after the events to determine if the type of learning activity - more passive, didactic-type events or active learning events - impacted outcomes. Of the over 400 students representing predominantly athletic training, nursing, occupational therapy, and physical therapy programs who attended IPE Week, a total of 190 health professions students completed the pre- and post-IPE Week SPICE-R.

Following extensive etiologic testing by multiple laboratories of hundreds of specimens collected from patients diagnosed with AFM, no consistent cause of AFM has been identified. Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial muscle wasting condition characterized by severe body weight and muscle mass loss which is secondary to chronic disease. The mechanistic examination of cachexia has predominately focused on the male phenotype and created significant gaps in understanding cachexia progression in the female. Cachexia is a debilitating condition that occurs with chronic disease, including cancer; our research has shown that some regulation of cancer cachexia progression is affected by sex differences. The mouse is genetically predisposed to develop intestinal tumors; IL-6 signaling and hypogonadism are associated with cachexia severity in the male. This relationship in the female warrants further investigation, as we have shown that the ability of IL-6 to induce cachexia differs between the sexes.

While mouse skeletal muscle's response to an acute bout of stimulated low-frequency concentric muscle contractions is disrupted by cachexia, gaps remain in our understanding of cachexia's effects on eccentric contraction-induced muscle growth. Purpose: Hydrogel spheres may be useful in treating orbital hypoplasia associated with congenital microphthalmia. The authors describe migration associated with the use of these devices.
Methods: The authors retrospectively reviewed 5 cases in which a hydrogel orbital expander (Osmed) was implanted to treat orbital hypoplasia in pediatric patients with congenital microphthalmia (with or without previous surgery).
A retrospective study of 36 dermal-fat grafts was undertaken to determine the indications as a primary enucleation implant material. Twenty-two patients or 61% required a reoperation in a three-year follow-up period. Sixty-seven percent required secondary prosthetic revision.
