Comparing Student Performance in Emergency Remote and Face-to-Face Collaborative Learning Courses.

The start of the COVID-19 pandemic forced an unprecedented shift from face-to-face (F2F) instruction to emergency remote teaching (ERT) for over one billion learners worldwide. Studies from K-12 and higher education have begun to address the impact of ERT on student learning and well-being. The lessons learned from ERT will likely shape the response to future public health emergencies and inform the design and implementation of remote courses.

Opioids and Chronic Pain: Impact of the NIH Pathways to Prevention Evidence-Based Workshop Program.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Disease Prevention (ODP) sponsors Pathways to Prevention (P2P), an evidence-based scientific workshop program that helps advance prevention research. Each P2P workshop is presided over by an independent expert panel and informed by a systematic evidence review, scientific presentations, and public input. Post-workshop activities include collaborating with federal agency partners to develop an action plan for addressing key research gaps.

A Mathematical Model of Estradiol Production from Ultrasound Data for Bovine Ovarian Follicles.

In this paper, we present a new way to assess the concentration of estradiol (E2) and Insulin Growth Factor-1 (IGF) based on the results from ultrasound scans combined with mathematical models. The IGF1 model is based on the progesterone (P4) concentration, which can be estimated with models calculating P4 level based on the size/volume of corpus luteum (CL) measured during ultrasound scans. At this moment little is known about the underlying reasons for double ovulation and silent heat occurrences.

Hyperbolic source location of crack related acoustic emission in bone.

Little work has been done on the localization of microcracks in bone using acoustic emission. Microcrack localization is useful to study the fracture process in bone and to prevent fractures in patients. Locating microcracks that occur before fracture allows one to predict where fracture will occur if continued stress is applied to the bone.

Stability of norfloxacin in an extemporaneously prepared oral liquid.

The stability of norfloxacin in an extemporaneously prepared suspension stored at room temperature and under refrigeration was studied over 56 days. A 20-mg/mL suspension was prepared from commercially available 400-mg norfloxacin tablets and equal amounts of Ora-Plus and strawberry syrup to make a final volume of 60 mL. Six identical samples of the suspension were prepared in amber plastic prescription bottles.

Behavioral effects of aluminum ingestion on animal and human subjects.

Abnormally high brain aluminum concentrations have been detected in hemodialysis patients who died of an unexplained encephalopathy. As a result, this study was undertaken to examine whether the ingestion of aluminum produces behavioral aberrations in non-dialysed human subjects and rats with ostensibly normal renal function. Rats were fed AlCl3 by intubation in varying doses, and tests measuring learning ability, visual temporal acuity, motor coordination and activity were administered.

Polywater: methods for identifying polywater columns and evidence for ordered growth.

The refractive indices of polywater columns in glass capillaries have been rapidly and accurately measured with an interference microscope. Polywater has been detected by this method in both quartz and Vycor glass capillaries. A comparison of refractive index measurements with measurements of optical anisotropy indicates that polywater initially condenses with an ordered structure.
