In recent years, there has been a notable increase in cooling water intake blockage caused by marine organism blooms at coastal nuclear power plants worldwide, resulting in shutdowns of nuclear power plants and large economic losses. A sizable portion of these incidents were caused by blooms from jellyfish, a planktonic invertebrate with a unique growth pattern. Suitable external conditions are conducive to the rapid growth of jellyfish, and blooms can occur within a few days.

The Pacific Arctic shelf is undergoing significant environmental changes that are expected to impact the functioning of Arctic benthic ecosystem. By utilizing trait-based methods, we can better understand the effects of environmental changes on the functional structure of macrobenthic communities, offering a more detailed interpretation that complements traditional biodiversity assessments based on community structure. Using Biological Trait Analysis (BTA), we investigated shifts in the functional composition of macrobenthic communities across the subarctic to Arctic regions of the Pacific Arctic shelf, examining how these communities are responding to various environmental gradients.

Gallardo, 1968 is a small genus in the polychaete family Capitellidae, and the available records are largely reported from the Indo-West Pacific region. Although Gallardo (1968) and Green (2002) noted that species had intraspecific variation in the number of thoracic chaetigers when they described the two previously known species, this variation has not been corroborated using molecular evidence. In this study, a new species, , is described based on 29 specimens collected from the Beibu Gulf, South China Sea.

Though research about sea spiders limited in China seas, a complete checklist has not yet exist so far. After checking recent collections obtained from Shandong, Zhejiang, Fujian and the East China Sea, all these sixty-eight specimens were identified as six species belonged to four families and five genera, including three ones new to China. We described and illustrated them in this study, and also revised all previous records about Chinese pycnogonids and provided a checklist for the presently known forty-one species.

DNA barcoding based on a fragment of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene in the mitochondrial genome is widely applied in species identification and biodiversity studies. The aim of this study was to establish a comprehensive barcoding reference database of fishes in the Taiwan Strait and evaluate the applicability of using the COI gene for the identification of fish at the species level. A new species of pycnogonid collected by the Chinese research vessel, R/V HY IV, during deep sea cruises to the South China Sea in 2013, is described. The new species, Hemichela nanhaiensis, obtained from more than 1300 m depth, is distinguished from the other two species in the genus by the characters of the chela dactylus with 12 denticulations on the inner margin and by the presence of taller tubercles on the lateral processes.

Surface water samples from downstream and estuarine areas of Jiulong River were collected in August 2011 and May 2012 for detecting sulfonamide antibiotic residues and isolating sulfamethazine-resistant bacteria.
