Background: Consistent perceptions of oral lesions by all professionals who examine the mouth would improve the poor survival rates from oral cancer through earlier diagnosis.
Methods: Two techniques from perceptual psychology measured how 14 otolaryngologists and 85 dental hygiene students judged differences among seven tongue lesions. Multidimensional scaling produced a perceptual "map" showing the underlying dimensions in these judgments.
Hodgkin's disease is a cancer involving the lymphatics. While the yearly total of new cases is only approximately 7,500, the disease is very curable with modern radiotherapy and/or combination chemotherapy. This represents an increasing number of survivors who require dental treatment.

This case report describes an innovative restorative technique using glass ionomer and posterior composite resin materials. It was used to treat a patient with extensive internal resorption of the clinical crown of the maxillary first molar. Although unconventional, this method successfully strengthened and restored the tooth.

In selected cases in which appearance is important, a posterior composite resin may be used successfully to reinforce and restore a tooth with undermined, nonfunctional cusps. The restoration of teeth with compromised functional cusps is not recommended. Once the decision has been made to restore the tooth with a posterior composite resin, care must be taken to follow a technique to prevent problems after treatment that result from microleakage and contraction shrinkage.
