Unlabelled: Asthma is a chronic non-communicable disease considered a serious health problem worldwide. The Chronic Care Model promotes the self-management of patients' chronic conditions. This process requires an active engagement of health professionals to provide education for patients to manage their disease better.

We have explored how different modules-linkers and head groups-affect the ability of these probes to integrate into lipid membranes and how they distribute intracellularly in mouse astrocytes and fibroblasts targeting lysosomes and lipid droplets. Each compound was assessed for its solvatochromic behavior in organic solvents and model membranes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTropical cyclones (TCs) are one of the major natural hazards to island and coastal communities and ecosystems. However, isotopic compositions of TC-derived precipitation (P) in surface water (SW) and groundwater (GW) reservoirs are still lacking. We tested the three main assumptions of the isotope storm "spike" hypothesis (sudden spikes in isotopic ratios).

The structure and microbial biomass of biofilms developed after 72 h, treated and untreated with both extracts, were compared by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal laser microscopy (CLSM). Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to quantify the number of viable and total microorganisms of each of the biofilm-forming strains in each condition.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAim: To characterize the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) and explore their proteomic cargo in healthy pregnant women compared to those with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and periodontitis.
Methods: One-hundred and four pregnant women were recruited at 24-30 gestation weeks. GDM was diagnosed by an oral glucose tolerance test.
Aim: To assess the correlation between micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and linear morphometric measurements in terms of mandibular bone levels in a modified experimental periodontitis model in rodents to study the mechanisms of association between periodontal destruction and neuroinflammation.
Methods: The proposed in vivo experimental periodontitis model involves the administration of oral rinses with Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum, four times per week during 4, 8 or 12 weeks, in 24 male Wistar Hannover rats (180 g, 5 weeks old). After euthanasia, hemi-mandibles were collected.
Objectives: To determine the prevalence and associated risk indicators for dentine hypersensitivity (DH), erosive tooth wear (ETW), gingival recession (GR), and gingival inflammation (bleeding on probing, BOP), with clinical and questionnaire data from seven European countries.
Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, seven-European country, epidemiological study in systemically healthy adults. Participants completed a questionnaire regarding oral hygiene, diet and lifestyle factors.
Exploiting the potential of curcuminoids (CCMoids) as molecular platforms, a new 3.53 nm extended system (pyACCMoid, 2) has been designed in two steps by reacting a CCMoid with amino-terminal groups (NH-CCMoid, 1, of 1.79 nm length) with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) aldehydes.

Historically, back pain (BP) was often attributed to mystical causes, treated with incantations or herbal concoctions. The Middle Ages shifted towards empirical practices, though still intertwined with superstition, using methods like leeches and bloodletting.

The growing volume of publications devoted to this subject highlights the need for an up-to-date review.
Methods: In this narrative review, we utilized the PubMed database to identify studies examining MRI-based biomarkers for the prediction of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), focusing on those reporting relevant prediction, not association, metrics.
Interactions between plants and soil microbial communities that benefit plant growth and enhance nutrient acquisition are driven by the selective release of metabolites from plant roots, or root exudation. To investigate these plant-microbe interactions, we developed a photoaffinity probe based on sorgoleone (rgoleone iazirine lkyne for hotoffinity abeling, SoDA-PAL), a hydrophobic secondary metabolite and allelochemical produced in root exudates. We applied SoDA-PAL to the identification of sorgoleone-binding proteins in SO1, a potential plant growth-promoting microbe isolated from sorghum rhizosphere soil.

Stress and other chronic inflammatory pathologies are shared risk factors for psychiatric diseases, and comorbidities are features of major depression. Epidemiological evidence suggests that periodontitis, as a source of low-grade chronic systemic inflammation, may be associated with depression, but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood.

Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Data Sources: PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, SPORTDiscus, Web of Science, and ProQuest Dissertation and Theses.
Aims: Periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are highly prevalent non-communicable diseases, sharing an inflammatory pathogenesis and common risk factors. The objective of the present research is to assess the association between periodontitis and cardiovascular disease risk in a representative sample of the Spanish-employed population.
Methods: Cross-sectional data were obtained between 2008 and 2011 in the Workers' Oral Health (WORALTH) epidemiological study.
Introduction: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a primary military psychiatric condition with complex etiology including strong genetic and/or environmental influences. Environmental influences and demographics can play a role in supporting underlying genetic traits for clinical utility evaluation as risk modifying factors. We are undertaking an IRB approved study to evaluate polygenic scores of PTSD risk in the adverse childhood experience and serotonin (ACES) transporter cohort.

Our approach utilizes a bifunctional 1,8-naphthalimide scaffold with a push-pull character, modified on one side with a head group and a linker on the other side connecting it to cholesterol an ester bond. Through structure-function studies, we've explored how different substituents-linkers and head groups-affect the ability of these fluorescent cholesterol naphthalimide analogs (CNDs) to mimic natural cholesterol behavior at both molecular and cellular levels.

Methods: The paper was divided into different topics, starting with an approach to understanding both commensal and pathogenic oral microbiota.
Objective: As the second most common surgery performed on women in the United States, hysterectomy techniques are constantly examined for validity and superiority. The vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) has increased in popularity since the first vNOTES hysterectomy was performed in 2012. We sought out to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of hysterectomy by vNOTES compared to conventional vaginal hysterectomy for various benign indications.

Case Report: We present a case of a 56-year-old immunocompetent female with porcine bioprosthetic mitral valve replacement, automated implanted cardioverter-defibrillator, and atrial fibrillation on apixaban who was found to have in-hospital atraumatic splenic rupture complicating infective endocarditis with The rupture was treated successfully by endovascular embolization. Usual treatment with six weeks of antibiotics provided durable cure without further complication, and no surgical intervention was needed for either the valve or spleen.
Tumor hypoxia has been associated with cancer progression, angiogenesis, and metastasis via modifications in the release and cargo composition of extracellular vesicles secreted by tumor cells. Indeed, hypoxic extracellular vesicles are known to trigger a variety of angiogenic responses via different mechanisms. We recently showed that hypoxia promotes endosomal signaling in tumor cells via HIF-1α-dependent induction of the guanine exchange factor ALS2, which activates Rab5, leading to downstream events involved in cell migration and invasion.
