We report the synthesis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, magnetic, and luminescence measurements of a novel family of luminescent cage-like tetranuclear silsesquioxanes (PhSiO)(LnO)(O)(CHO)(EtOH)(CHCN)⋅2CHCN (where Ln = Tb, ; Tb/Eu, ; and Gd, ), featuring seven-coordinated lanthanide ions arranged in a one-capped trigonal prism geometry. Compounds and exhibit characteristic Tb and Tb/Eu-related emissions, respectively, sensitized by the chelating antenna acetylacetonate (acac) ligands upon excitation in the UV and visible spectral regions. Compound is used to assess the energies of the triplet states of the ligand.

This work challenges the conventional approach of using NdF lifetime changes for evaluating the experimental Nd → Yb energy transfer rate and efficiency. Using near-infrared (NIR) emitting Nd:Yb mixed-metal coordination polymers (CPs), synthesized via solvent-free thermal grinding, we demonstrate that the Nd [H → I] → Yb [F → F] pathway, previously overlooked, dominates energy transfer due to superior energy resonance and -level selection rule compatibility. This finding upends the conventional focus on the Nd [F → I] → Yb [F → F] transition pathway.

The beneficial effects of increasing histamine levels on memory have acquired special interest due to their applicability to psychiatric conditions that cause memory impairments. In addition, by employing drug repurposing approaches, it was demonstrated that dihydroergotamine (DHE), an FDA drug approved to treat migraines, inhibits Histamine N Methyl Transferase (HNMT), the enzyme responsible for the inactivation of histamine in the brain. For this reason, in the present work, the effect of DHE on histamine levels in the hippocampus and its effects on memory was evaluated, employing the scopolamine-induced amnesia model, the Novel Object Recognition (NOR) paradigm, and the Morris Water Maze (MWM).

We disclose a Michael/Conia-ene/S2 cascade reaction for the synthesis of Indane-fused dihydrofurans from 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and 2-alkynylnitrostyrenes promoted by potassium carbonate in DMSO at room temperature. In this reaction, the nitro group has a chameleonic role, first as an electron-withdrawing group for the Michael addition, then the nitronate behaves as a nucleophile, and finally, the allylic nitro acts as a leaving group. The product is obtained as a single diastereomer, affording up to 82% with 1,3-keto esters and 58% with 1,3-diketones.

Pseudo--symmetric dodecaheterocyclic structures, which possess two acyl/aroyl groups disposed on either a cis- or trans-relative configuration, were prepared from the naturally occurring (-)-(1)-myrtenal. Addition of Grignard reagents (RMgX) to the diastereoisomeric mixture of these compounds unexpectedly showed that nucleophilic additions to the two prochiral carbonyl centers gave the same stereochemical result in both cis/trans diastereoisomers, making unnecessary the separation of this mixture. Noticeably, both carbonyl groups showed different reactivity because one of them is attached to an acetalic carbon and the other to a thioacetalic carbon.
