[Hip fracture in older adults: prevalence and costs in two hospitals. Tabasco, Mexico, 2009].

Objectives: To determine hip fracture prevalence and direct healthcare costs in elderly users of the reference hospitals of the Mexican Institute of Social Insurance (IMSS by spanish initials) and Mexican Oils (PEMEX by spanish initials), from Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, during 2009.

Materials And Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. The information was based on the registers of surgical interventions and institutional reports of the elderly inpatients who had a registered attention in their institution.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on growth, nutrient status, and total antioxidant activity of Melilotus albus during phytoremediation of a diesel-contaminated substrate.

This research evaluated the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on growth, nutritional status, total antioxidant activity (AOX), total soluble phenolics content (TPC), and total nitrate reductase activity (NRA) of leaves and roots of Melilotus albus Medik planted in diesel-contaminated sand (7500 mg kg(-1)). Seedlings of Melilotus either Non inoculated (Non-AMF) or pre-inoculated plants (AMF) with the AMF-inoculum Glomus Zac-19 were transplanted to non-contaminated or contaminated sand. After 60 days, diesel significantly reduced plant growth.

[The anemic gap in depressed newborn infants].

Thirty cesarean section-delivered newborn were studied. Fifteen of them scored from 0 to 3 and, 8 and greater on the Apgar scale when measured at one and five minutes, respectively. The other 15 scored 8 or more at one minute and 9 at five minutes.

[Lactic acidosis in recovered asphyctic newborn infants].

Thirty newborn babies delivered by elective caesarean section were studied. They were randomly placed in two groups. The first group consisted of newborns who scored 3 or less on the Apgar scale at one minute and 8 or more after five minutes.
