Objectives: FDC susceptibility testing is challenging as none of the commercial tests have been proven to accurately determine the susceptibility in the area of technical uncertainty (ATU). Here, we evaluated the performance of different FDC testing methods on Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates around this range.
Methods: A challenging collection of 104 K.
The biological activity of polysaccharides used for nutraceuticals/drug excipients has been a neglected area of study. This work deals with the preparation, optimization, characterization, and evaluation of persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) fruit by-products and the study of the resultant dietary fiber (DF) interaction with other compounds, using acetaminophen as a model.

Introduction: Murepavadin is an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) in clinical development that selectively targets LptD and whose resistance profile remains unknown. We aimed to explore genomic modifications and consequences underlying murepavadin and/or colistin susceptibility.
Methods: To define genomic mechanisms underlying resistance, we performed two approaches: 1) a genome-wide association study (GWAS) in a clinical collection (n=496), considering >0.
Background: Classical Swine Fever (CSF) is still one of the most economically important viral diseases of pigs. In endemic countries, the disease is controlled mostly through vaccination; hence, the availability of safe and effective vaccines is of utmost importance. Vaccines intended for application in developing countries must also be thermally stable, since the infrastructure needed to maintain a cold chain in those countries is usually lacking.

Fluctuations are inherent to biological systems, arising from the stochastic nature of molecular interactions, and influence various aspects of system behavior, stability, and robustness. These fluctuations can be categorized as intrinsic, stemming from the system's inherent structure and dynamics, and extrinsic, arising from external factors, such as temperature variations. Understanding the interplay between these fluctuations is crucial for obtaining a comprehensive understanding of biological phenomena.

Real-world evidence on the impact of monoclonal antibodies as first-line treatment in Spain is limited. This observational, retrospective and prospective, multicenter, descriptive study included 117 transplant-ineligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (TIE-NDMM) patients divided into Group A, who received no daratumumab standard regimens, and the DVMP group (daratumumab, bortezomib, melphalan, and prednisone treatment). More than 90% of the patients in Group A received bortezomib, lenalidomide, or a combination of them.

Material And Methods: We studied microbiological and genomic characteristics of MRSA isolates recovered from pwCF in two Spanish multicentre studies (2013, 2021). Antimicrobial susceptibility was performed.
Background: The objective of this study is to analyze the transplacental transmission of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, their persistence in newborns, the factors that may influence this transmission, and the protection these antibodies confer over time.
Methods: This prospective cohort was conducted in a tertiary pediatric hospital in the Barcelona Metropolitan Region, Spain. It included neonates born to mothers who had SARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy or delivery between August 2020 and January 2022.
Objectives: We describe the clonal spread of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) 1-producing isolates belonging to the ST773 clone in Spain and the Netherlands, associated with the transfer of Ukrainian patients during the war.
Methods: Between March and December 2022, nine NDM-1-producing ST773 isolates were recovered from nine Ukrainian patients evacuated to two Spanish ( = 3) and five Dutch ( = 6) hospitals. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was studied (Sensititre, Microscan, EUCAST-2023).
Background: Identifying potential factors correlated with the sustained presence of antibodies in plasma may facilitate improved retrospective diagnoses and aid in the appraisal of pertinent vaccination strategies for various demographic groups. The main objective was to describe the persistence of anti-spike IgG one year after diagnosis in children and analyse its levels in relation to epidemiological and clinical variables.
Methods: A prospective, longitudinal, observational study was conducted in a university reference hospital in the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona (Spain) (March 2020-May 2021).
Background: Sepsis is an uncontrolled systemic inflammatory response to an infection that can result in acute failure of the function of the lung called acute respiratory distress syndrome. Leukocyte recruitment is an important hallmark of acute lung failure in patients with sepsis. Endothelial cells (EC) participate in this process by facilitating tethering, rolling, adhesion, and transmigration of leukocytes via adhesion molecules on their cell surface.

They are known to fuel bacterial evolution through horizontal gene transfer, and recent analyses indicate that they can also promote intragenomic adaptations. However, the role of plasmids as catalysts of bacterial evolution beyond horizontal gene transfer is poorly explored.

However, it remains unclear if this alteration and its correlation with ASEs extend to other psychotic disorders.
Methods: Electroencephalography was used to study the N1 Event-Related Potential (ERP) as an index of CD-mediated suppression in the auditory cortex across thirty-five participants with schizophrenia, twenty-six with bipolar disorder, and thirty healthy controls.
Introduction: Multi-carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (M-CPE) are increasingly described. We characterized the M-CPE isolates prospectively recovered in our hospital (Madrid, Spain) over two years (2021-2022).
Methods: We collected 796 carbapenem resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) from clinical and surveillance samples.
Sepsis is a dysregulated systemic inflammatory response to an infection, which can lead to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome that includes the kidney. Leukocyte recruitment is an important process of the host immune defense in response to sepsis. Endothelial cells (EC) actively regulate leukocyte recruitment by expressing adhesion molecules following the activation of dedicated intracellular signal transduction pathways.

Methods: A total of 1725 isolates (1454 and 271 ) were collected in 10 centres from eight countries between January 2020 and December 2022. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was determined (microdilution-SENSITITRE).

Objectives: Despite the introduction of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulators, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is still a major pathogen in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). We determine the activity of cefiderocol and comparators in a collection of 154 P. aeruginosa isolates recovered from pwCF during three multicentre studies performed in 17 Spanish hospitals in 2013, 2017 and 2021.

The aim of this study was to describe the clinical features of hospitalised paediatric patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection in order to understand if the infection was the reason for admission.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study including patients aged 0-18 years with SARS-CoV-2 infection or multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) admitted to a tertiary care children's hospital in Spain between 01/01/2020 and 12/31/2021.
Background: The recommendation for the implementation of mammography screening in women aged 45-49 and 70-74 is conditional with moderate certainty of the evidence. The aim of this study is to simulate the long-term outcomes (2020-50) of using different age range scenarios in the breast cancer screening programme of the Valencia Region (Spain), considering different programme participation rates.
Methods: Three age range scenarios (S) were simulated with the EU-TOPIA tool, considering a biennial screening interval: S1, 45-69 years old (y); S2, 50-69 y and S3, 45-74 y.
Ceftazidime-avibactam and cefiderocol represent two of the few alternatives for infections by KPC-producing Enterobacterales. We reported the emergence of resistance to both ceftazidime-avibactam and cefiderocol in a KPC-producing ST131- (KPC-ST131-) clinical isolate. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, whole-genome sequencing, and cloning experiments were performed.
