Hybrid copper(I) halide materials are currently attracting significant attention due to their exceptional luminescence properties, offering great potential for the development of multifunctional emissive materials with, in addition, eco-friendly features. A binuclear copper iodide complex, based on the [CuIL] motif with phosphite derivatives as ligands, has been synthesized and structurally characterized. Photophysical investigations indicate that this complex displays luminescence thermochromic properties, which are characterized by a temperature-dependent change in the relative intensity of two emission bands.

Melilite-type gallates of general formula REAEGaO are of interest for their ability to host mobile interstitial oxide ions in [GaO] layers. The crystal structure of CaGaO is closely related to melilite, with [GaO] layers stacked in a more complex way to accommodate an additional 0.5 interlayer cations per formula unit, suggesting the potential for similar oxide ion conduction behavior.

Article Synopsis
  • Coherent perfect absorption (CPA) is an interference phenomenon important for optical computing, but its noise characteristics have not been fully studied.
  • In this research, it was found that CPA thermal noise signals are orthogonal to the transmitted signals, allowing for effective management of thermal noise.
  • These findings could lead to advancements in CPA technologies, enabling the separation of thermal noise from signals and the development of networks that optimize heat transfer without losing energy.

Background: Implementation science presents ethical issues not well addressed by traditional research ethics frameworks. There is little empirical work examining how clinicians whose work is affected by implementation studies view these issues. Accordingly, we interviewed clinicians working at sites participating in an implementation study seeking to improve patient handoffs to the intensive care unit (ICU).

We introduce a model that can be used for the description of the distribution of species when there is scarcity of data, based on our previous work (Ballesteros et al. J Math Biol 85(4):31, 2022). We address challenges in modeling species that are seldom observed in nature, for example species included in The International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN 2023).

Introduction: Personalised prevention aims to delay or avoid disease occurrence, progression, and recurrence of disease through the adoption of targeted interventions that consider the individual biological, including genetic data, environmental and behavioural characteristics, as well as the socio-cultural context. This protocol summarises the main features of a rapid scoping review to show the research landscape on biomarkers or a combination of biomarkers that may help to better identify subgroups of individuals with different risks of developing specific diseases in which specific preventive strategies could have an impact on clinical outcomes. This review is part of the "Personalised Prevention Roadmap for the future HEalThcare" (PROPHET) project, which seeks to highlight the gaps in current personalised preventive approaches, in order to develop a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for the European Union.

This case report describes the use of intravenous (IV) cangrelor as a transient tool for antiplatelet bridging therapy in a 70-year-old male with coronary artery disease and esophageal strictures who underwent recent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and subsequently required a pre-oral endoscopic myomectomy (POEM) procedure. The patient was switched from oral clopidogrel to IV cangrelor drip prior to the procedure, which was successful in preventing stent thrombosis. The case highlights the potential benefits of IV antiplatelet therapy in patients unable to tolerate oral medications in the setting of esophageal obstructions following recent coronary stent placement in a critical care setting.

Article Synopsis
  • A copper(I) complex in a supercooled liquid state changes into a crystalline phase when mechanically stimulated.
  • This transformation results in a significant color change in its emission from red to green.
  • The photoluminescence quantum yield increases 20 times to 87%, and this phase change is reversible due to the complex's ability to create a supercooled metastable state.

Resilient system performance in high-stakes settings, which includes the ability to monitor, respond, anticipate, and learn, can be enhanced for trainees through simulation of realistic scenarios enhanced by augmented reality. Active learning strategies can enhance simulation-based training, particularly the mental model articulation principle where students are prompted to anticipate what will happen next and the reflection principle where students self-assess their performance compared to a gold standard expert model. In this paper, we compared simulation-based training for trauma care with and without active learning strategies during pauses in the simulated action for progressively deteriorating patients.

Atypical ductal hyperplasia (ADH) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) are relatively common breast lesions on the same spectrum of disease. Atypical ductal hyperblasia is a nonmalignant, high-risk lesion, and DCIS is a noninvasive malignancy. While a benefit of screening mammography is early cancer detection, it also leads to increased biopsy diagnosis of noninvasive lesions.

Combat casualty care can be complicated by transport times exceeding the "golden hour," with intervention and resuscitation limited to what the medic can carry. Pharmaceutical albumin comes highly saturated with nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs). We recently showed that treatment with 25% bovine serum albumin (BSA) loaded with oleic acid, but not NEFA-free BSA, improved survival for hours after severe hemorrhage and often eliminated the need for resuscitation in rats.
