Preceramic human skeletal remains preserved in submerged caves near Tulum in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Mexico, reveal conflicting results regarding 14C dating. Here we use U-series techniques for dating a stalagmite overgrowing the pelvis of a human skeleton discovered in the submerged Chan Hol cave. The oldest closed system U/Th age comes from around 21 mm above the pelvis defining the terminus ante quem for the pelvis to 11311±370 y BP.

Synthesis, characterization and investigations on the reactivity of the novel metal basic, yet isolable 14 VE NHC-complexes [M(iPrIm)] (M = Pd , Pt ; iPrIm = 1,3-di-isopropyl-imidazolin-2-ylidene; VE = valence electron; NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) is reported and compared to the chemistry of the corresponding nickel complex. Quantum chemical analyses reveal that differences in the reactivity of group 10 NHC complexes are caused by differences in the rigidity and thus activation strain associated with bending the corresponding d-[M(NHC)] fragments during reaction. These results should have implications for the understanding of the fundamental steps in catalytic cycles, in which such complex fragments are employed.

Objectives: The aims of this study were to compare the impact of urodynamic training on the young urologists after fellowship training as well as on senior urologists who attend regular courses on the management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and their capacity to do and interpret urodynamic studies.

Methods: Sixty-four consecutive young urologists admitted to fellowship program on voiding dysfunctions and 110 senior urologists attending to periodical meetings were interviewed before and after the 3-day-courses regarding their ability to set, interpret and do urodynamic studies. They were also questioned on the reasons that led them to attend the courses and how they use the new concepts to manage BPH.

Purpose: High-risk prostate cancer patients undergoing treatment often experience biochemical recurrence. The use of bisphosphonates as an adjuvant treatment delays skeletal events, yet whether or not bisphosphonates also delay metastastic development remains to be determined.

Materials And Methods: A total of 140 high-risk prostate cancer patients who were undergoing definitive treatment and who had clinically organ-confined disease and who suffered from biochemical recurrence were administered intravenous (IV) clodronate.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Iatrogenic female urethral obstruction resulting from sling operations may be related to surgical inexperience and must be better understood. Although there are no widely recognized parameters for this type of study, a single-surgeon consecutive series offers an opportunity to study the role of expertise in sling operations over time.

Methods: This study consecutively examined 176 women who underwent an autologous fascial sling procedure.

Background: Natural rubber latex (NRL) contains proteins which, after repeated contact with latex products and an allergic predisposition (atopy), can lead to sensitisation (specific IgE against NRL proteins) or allergy (type 1 allergy with symptoms from urticaria to allergic shock). Spina bifida patients are known to be a high risk group for latex allergy and sensitisation due to numerous operations beginning soon after birth. In the study presented here we compared spina bifida patients with patients who also underwent repeated operations beginning soon after birth (urological malformations) or underwent surgery once in the neonatal period but had numerous anaesthesias because of repeated treatment with a bougie (oesophageal atresia).
