Mitochondria are complex organelles of eukaryotic cells that contain their own genome, encoding key subunits of the respiratory complexes. The successive steps of mitochondrial gene expression are intimately linked, and are under the control of a large number of nuclear genes encoding factors that are imported into mitochondria. Investigating the relationships between these genes and their interaction networks, and whether they reveal direct or indirect partners, can shed light on their role in mitochondrial biogenesis, as well as identify new actors in this process.

Interorganizational networks that harness the priorities, capacities, and skills of various agencies and individuals have emerged as useful approaches for strengthening preventive services in public health systems. We use examples from the Canadian Heart Health Initiative and Alberta's Primary Care Networks to illustrate characteristics of networks, describe the limitations of existing frameworks for assessing the performance of prevention-oriented networks, and propose a research agenda for guiding future efforts to improve the performance of these initiatives. Prevention-specific assessment strategies that capture relevant aspects of network performance need to be identified, and feedback mechanisms are needed that make better use of these data to drive change in network activities.

We investigated the role of interleukin-33 (IL-33) in airway inflammation in an experimental model of an acute exacerbation of chronic asthma, which reproduces many of the features of the human disease. Systemically sensitized female BALB/c mice were challenged with a low mass concentration of aerosolized ovalbumin for 4 weeks to induce chronic asthmatic inflammation and then received a single moderate-level challenge to trigger acute airway inflammation simulating an asthmatic exacerbation. Pseudoaneurysm of the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) is a rare complication following surgical repair of congenital heart disease involving a homograft or conduit. Traditionally, surgical intervention is indicated due to risk for rupture, thrombosis, compression of adjacent structures, and infection. Poor urban communities experience high rates of incarceration and prisoner reentry. This paper examines the residences where former prisoners live after prison, focusing on returns to pre-prison social environments, residential mobility, and the role of intermediate sanctions. Purpose: To analyze the principles that guide inference of covert cognitive functions and consciousness in patients with extremely severe brain damage on the basis of neurophysiological test results.

Methods: (1) A quantitative analysis of a range of possible inferences based on neurophysiological findings in low- and non-responsive patients; (2) a logical analysis of the various possible orders of application of neurophysiological tests in such patients.

Results: Surprisingly, improvement of neurophysiological test qualities contributes to the improvement of diagnostic results less than some other factors, such as the structure of the patient population, the quality of the previous clinical diagnosis, and the variability of the methods used.
