Long-term studies on 11 patients suffering from methyldopa-induced autoimmune haemolytic anaemia suggest that this self limitable episode of disturbed immune tolerance is characterized by five main parameters: 1. The autoimmune pathogenic average daily drug dose: Unfortunately, it cannot be estimated exactly due to the individually rather variable absorption of methyldopa (7-62%). The lowest oral dose in our patients was 125 mg daily.

On World Health Day 1980, of which the motto was "Smoking or Health - The choice is yours", the Austrian Ministry of Health initiated an anti-smoking campaign for protection of environment and health. The action, which is by far the most intensive ever held in Austria and internationally is also one of the most comprehensive campaigns in this sphere, is presented here.

Nine Austrian daily newspapers were screened for articles dealing with medical items. 634 relevant articles were collected within three months comprising more than 10 square meters of printed pages. Most frequent were "informations about health aspects" (34%), "health politics and economy" (24%) and "medical science and technique" (13%).

There are significantly more lower class people among lung cancer patients than in the general population. The higher lung cancer risk in lower social classes, therefore, may be associated with social factors.
