Introduction: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a relapsing, debilitating blood cancer which remains incurable despite advances in treatments. Patients typically receive multiple lines of treatment, to which they become refractory, thereby limiting treatment options. B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) bispecific antibodies (BsAbs) represent a novel modality of treatment that has significant efficacy for relapsed or refractory patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - Emotion regulation is key in therapy, especially in couple and family therapy, but it can also reflect and strengthen neoliberal ideals of self-management and personal responsibility.
  • - The article argues that therapeutic practices may inadvertently push clients towards a self-improvement mindset aligned with neoliberal values, placing the burden of happiness and well-being on them.
  • - While emotion regulation techniques might support individualism, the therapy field has potential to resist these trends and promote alternative ways of being and feeling within the context of broader societal pressures.

This Good Practice Paper provides recommendations for the diagnosis, risk stratification and management of the monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). It describes the recently recognised entity of the monoclonal gammopathy of clinical significance (MGCS), and recommends how it should be managed. The potential for targeted population screening for MGUS is also discussed.

Research on the gendered division of household work in western political economies often neglects its emotional dimensions. This conceptual paper draws on concepts of emotion work and feminist care ethics to explore gendered and intersecting divisions of emotions and emotional work in couple relationships and their implications for couple therapy. Although emotion work has been studied in workplace settings, less attention has been paid to inequalities in the privatized realm of interpersonal relationships, including romantic and filial ones.

Daratumumab is a CD38-directed monoclonal antibody indicated to treat multiple myeloma (MM). Daratumumab was initially administered intravenously (IV), subsequently a subcutaneous (SC) formulation was developed to increase convenience of administration. The UK was an early adopter of SC daratumumab and, as such, this report provides consensus recommendations from a group of UK MM experts, with the aim of facilitating the transition from IV to SC daratumumab for other European healthcare providers.

This paper is aimed mainly at Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) practitioners. It addresses the sustainability of communities, since without them there is no real human future. It also fits current concerns about climate change and general sustainability.

The aim of this study was to investigate opioid-induced constipation (OIC) in a large cohort of "real-world" patients with cancer; the objectives were to determine the prevalence of OIC, the utility of a simple screening question, the accuracy of the Rome IV diagnostic criteria, the clinical features of OIC (physical and psychological), and the impact of OIC (quality of life). One thousand patients with cancer were enrolled in the study, which involved completion of the Rome IV diagnostic criteria for OIC, the Bowel Function Index, the Patient Assessment of Constipation Quality of Life questionnaire, and the Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale-Short Form. Participants also underwent a thorough clinical assessment by an experienced clinician (ie, "gold-standard" assessment of OIC).

Physical pain represents a common feature of Bondage and Discipline/Dominance and Submission/Sadism and Machochism (BDSM) activity. This article explores the literature accounting for how painful stimuli may be experienced as pleasurable among practitioners of BDSM, and contrasting this with how it is experienced as painful among non-BDSM individuals. We reviewed the available literature on pain and on BDSM, and used the findings to postulate a theory accounting for how painful stimuli are experienced as pleasurable.

Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDs) are recognised as global extinction drivers of threatened species. Unfortunately, biodiversity managers have few tested solutions to manage them when often the desperate need for solutions necessitates a response. Here we test in situ biosecurity protocols to assess the efficacy of managing Psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD), one of the most common and emergent viral diseases in wild parrots (Psittaciformes) that is currently affecting numerous threatened species globally.

We recently reported a pump-probe method that uses a single laser pulse to introduce parahydrogen (p-H) into a metal dihydride complex and then follows the time-evolution of the p-H-derived nuclear spin states by NMR. We present here a theoretical framework to describe the oscillatory behaviour of the resultant hyperpolarised NMR signals using a product operator formalism. We consider the cases where the p-H-derived protons form part of an AX, AXY, AXYZ or AA'XX' spin system in the product molecule.

The electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon are fundamental properties that describe its response to external electric and magnetic fields. They can be extracted from Compton-scattering data-and have been, with good accuracy, in the case of the proton. In contradistinction, information for the neutron requires the use of Compton scattering from nuclear targets.

The invasion of the giant Madagascar day gecko Phelsuma grandis has increased the threats to the four endemic Mauritian day geckos (Phelsuma spp.) that have survived on mainland Mauritius. We had two main aims: (i) to predict the spatial distribution and overlap of P.

During cochlear implantation, hearing preservation is a concern. Minimizing disturbances to the cochlea and protection of the underlying endosteal membrane during the formation of a cochleostomy are considered important factors. The robotic micro-drill system tested in this article is the first example of an autonomous surgical drill successfully producing a cochleostomy, which keeps the underlying endosteal membrane intact.

The second J(π)=2+ state of 12C, predicted over 50 years ago as an excitation of the Hoyle state, has been unambiguously identified using the 12C(γ,α0)(8)Be reaction. The alpha particles produced by the photodisintegration of 12C were detected using an optical time projection chamber. Data were collected at beam energies between 9.

Background: There is a need for sensor-guided robotic devices that discriminate working conditions and media, and control interaction of tool-points with respect to tissues. At the micro-surgical scale the need is to control exact penetration through flexible tissues and to control relative motion with respect to moving or deforming tissue targets and interfaces.

Methods: This paper describes a smart surgical drill that is able to control interaction with respect to the flexing tissue to avoid penetration or to control the extent of protrusion with respect to the position of the flexible tissue interface under drilling.

Objectives: This report presents detailed pregnancy rates for 1990-2008, updating a national series of rates extending since 1976.

Methods: Tabular and graphical data on pregnancy rates by age, race, and Hispanic origin, and by marital status are presented and described.

Results: In 2008, an estimated 6,578,000 pregnancies resulted in 4,248,000 live births, 1,212,000 induced abortions, and 1,118,000 fetal losses.

Background: Data of abortion incidence and trends are needed to monitor progress toward improvement of maternal health and access to family planning. To date, estimates of safe and unsafe abortion worldwide have only been made for 1995 and 2003.

Methods: We used the standard WHO definition of unsafe abortions.

The intense, nearly monoenergetic, 100% polarized γ-ray beams available at the HIγS facility, along with the realization that the E1-E2 interference term that appears in the Compton scattering polarization observable has opposite signs in the forward and backward angles, make it possible to obtain an order-of-magnitude improvement in the determination of the parameters of the isovector giant quadrupole resonance (IVGQR). Accurate IVGQR parameters will lead to a more detailed knowledge of the symmetry energy in the nuclear equation of state which is important for understanding nuclear matter under extreme conditions such as those present in neutron stars. Our new method is demonstrated for the case of (209)Bi.

Context: Periodic assessments of abortion incidence are essential for monitoring trends in unintended pregnancy and gaps in contraceptive services and use.

Methods: Statistics and estimates of legal induced abortions in 2008 were compiled for 64 of the 77 countries in which legal abortion is generally available; the 64 are home to 98% of women aged 15-44 who live in the countries eligible for inclusion. Data sources included reports or completed questionnaires from national statistical offices and nationally representative surveys.
