Objectives: To assess long-term outcomes (up to 10 cycles) of repeated intradetrusor botulinum toxin (BoNT) utilisation in multiple sclerosis (MS) and idiopathic overactive bladder (OAB).

Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective, international, multi-centre, observational cohort study of patients diagnosed with MS and neurogenic OAB and treated with intradetrusor BoNT between January 2005 and January 2020 (just prior to COVID-19 interruption). Dose, efficacy, duration of effect, International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Overactive Bladder (ICIQ-OAB) and International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Urinary Incontinence (ICIQ-UI) measures and complication rates were recorded.

Objectives: This study aims to define criteria for robotic reconstructive and functional urology credentialing using expert consensus. A recent narrative review identified a lack of standardised minimal requirements for performing robotic-assisted surgery procedures. The substantial variability or absence of a standardised curriculum and credentialing process within a highly specialised surgical field is often insufficient to guarantee surgeon proficiency and could potentially jeopardise patient safety.

We present a case of self-insertion of multiple button batteries into the urethra. Button batteries are corrosive and tissue liquefaction and necrosis can occur within 2 hours. Emergent removal, intravenous antibiotics, suprapubic and indwelling catheter insertion and close monitoring are required to prevent further tissue injury.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise of robotic assisted surgery (RAS) in Reconstructive and Functional Urology (RFU) improves surgical outcomes but also challenges quality and safety standards due to varying institutional requirements.
  • A narrative review highlights issues in assessing surgeon competency, as reliance on case numbers is insufficient, and differentiating between robotic training and specific RFU experience is complex.
  • The conclusion emphasizes the need for standardized guidelines in training and credentialing to ensure patient safety and high-quality care in RFU procedures.

Background: The surgical difficulty of partial nephrectomy (PN) varies depending on the operative approach. Existing nephrometry classifications for assessment of surgical difficulty are not specific to the robotic approach.

Objective: To develop an international robotic-specific classification of renal masses for preoperative assessment of surgical difficulty of robotic PN.

Knowledge of factors associated with superior outcomes in women treated with urethral bulking agents for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) remains limited. The aim of this study was to examine associations between post-treatment outcomes in women who had undergone polyacrylamide hydrogel injections for SUI, and physiological and self-reported variables captured during pre-treatment clinical evaluation. A cross-sectional study was undertaken in female patients treated for SUI with polyacrylamide hydrogel injections by a single urologist between January 2012 and December 2019.

Introduction: This study aims to determine the accuracy of radiological imaging compared with surgical pathology in patients with periurethral (PU) and anterior vaginal wall (AVW) lesions.

Methods: This study is a retrospective analysis of 126 women who underwent surgical treatment for PU and AVW masses between 2011 and 2020. Clinicopathological data were extracted along with radiological findings from medical records.

Introduction And Hypothesis: This systematic review (PROSPERO:CRD42022275789) is aimed at comparing qualitatively the success, recurrence, and complication rates of sacrocolpopexy with concomitant hysterectomy, hysteropexy, sacrospinous fixation (SSF) with and without vaginal hysterectomy (VH) and uterosacral fixation (USF) with and without VH.

Methods: A systematic search was performed using Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane databases for studies published from 2011, on women with apical pelvic organ prolapse requiring surgical interventions. Risk of bias was assessed via the National Institutes of Health study quality assessment tool.

Objective: To describe the etiology and presenting symptoms of periurethral and anterior vaginal wall masses in a large series of patients in an academic institution.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of 126 patients presenting and undergoing treatment for periurethral and anterior vaginal wall masses between November 2001 and July 2021 was completed. Clinicopathologic data were extracted.

Objective: To conduct a systematic review of the literature to assess the diagnostic ability, complication rate, patient tolerability, and cost of local anaesthetic (LA) transperineal prostate biopsy.

Methods: Two reviewers searched Medline, the Cochrane Library, and Embase for publications on LA transperineal prostate biopsy up to March 2021. Outcomes of interest included cancer detection rates, complication rates, pain assessments and cost.

Background: Residential InReach presents an alternative to hospital admission for aged care residents swabbed for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), although relative outcomes remain unknown.

Aims: To compare rates and predictors of 28-day mortality for aged care residents seen by InReach with COVID-19, or 'suspected COVID-19' (sCOVID), including hospital versus InReach-based care.

Methods: Prospective observational study of consecutive patients referred to a Victorian InReach service meeting COVID-19 testing criteria between April and October 2020 (prevaccine availability).

Purpose: Refractory bladder neck contracture (BNC) following transurethral prostatectomy is rare and difficult to manage. Success rate of endoscopic treatment decline considerably after repeated treatments. Bladder neck reconstruction are often the last resort to treat refractory BNC failing endoscopic treatments.

Objectives: To compare data on transperineal template biopsy (TPTB) under general anesthesia (GA) compared with local anesthesia (LA) procedures using the PrecisionPoint™ Transperineal Access System (PPTAS) in relation to tolerability, cancer detection rate, complications, and cost.

Methods: A prospective pilot cohort study of patients undergoing transperineal biopsy was performed. Patients were excluded if they had concurrent flexible cystoscopy or language barriers.

Mesh removal after transvaginal mesh placement has typically involved transvaginal, open pelvic, laparoscopic, or a combination of approaches. Robotic pelvic mesh removal has been described in a small number of cases only. This study aims at determining the feasibility and safety of using robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery in the removal of pelvic mesh via the transabdominal and novel transvaginal approach.

Aim: The aim of this systematic review is to provide an updated report on the efficacy and complications of sacral neuromodulation (SNM) and percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) in the treatment of chronic nonobstructive urinary retention (CNOUR), with a focus on the contemporary technique of SNM utilizing the percutaneous placement of tined leads.

Methods: This systematic review was conducted with the use of PRISMA guidelines and registered with PROSPERO (CRD42020208052). A systematic literature search was conducted in Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane databases.

Subpubic cartilaginous cyst is a rare form of ganglion cyst that arises on the inferior surface of the pubis symphysis. The pathophysiology is poorly understood but has been hypothesised to be secondary to mucinous degeneration of the pubic supporting ligaments with cartilaginous metaplasia. We report a case of subpubic cartilaginous cyst in a 58-year-old woman who presented with an unusual symptomatic vaginal mass, that she described as 'growing a penis'.

Introduction: Classical teaching of a 2 cm macroscopic surgical margin for surgical treatment of primary penile cancer is overly aggressive. Contemporary evidence suggests narrow but clear margins have similar survival outcomes for localized disease. This study aims to determine the oncological outcome of using a risk-adapted algorithm to selection of macroscopic surgical margin based on biopsy grade of disease: 5 mm margin for grade 1, 10 mm margin for grade 2, and 20 mm margin for grade 3.
