In clinical trials it demonstrated superior efficacy in addition to a survival benefit when compared with the then current treatment standard, amphotericin B, for primary treatment of invasive aspergillosis. Voriconazole is a highly selective inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes.
