Purpose: For real-world evidence, it is convenient to use routinely collected data from the electronic medical record (EMR) to measure survival outcomes. However, patients can become lost to follow-up, causing incomplete data and biased survival time estimates. We quantified this issue for patients with metastatic cancer seen in an academic health system by comparing survival estimates from EMR data only and from EMR data combined with high-quality cancer registry data.

Hypertension is the leading global risk factor for cardiovascular disease and premature death. Recommendations from current guidelines of blood pressure (BP) management differ in many ways; therefore, we did an overview and comparative analysis of major clinical guidelines of BP management in people with and without diabetes, including the definition and classification of hypertension, initiation of antihypertensive drug therapy, BP control targets, and antihypertensive treatment strategies. BP management in patients with diabetes was discussed in great detail using both hypertension and diabetes guidelines.

Background: A previous study in 4703 patients suggested that a single-pill combination of amlodipine and atorvastatin is associated with greater adherence to therapy than a two-pill calcium channel antagonist (calcium channel blocker [CCB]) and HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) regimen. However, the impact of prior medication use on the potential adherence benefits of single-pill amlodipine/atorvastatin has not been studied.

Objective: To compare adherence to single-pill amlodipine/atorvastatin versus two-pill CCB + statin regimens in a large managed care population, stratified according to prior CCB and statin use.
