A lumbar spine statistical shape model (SSM) was developed to explain morphological differences in a population with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). Computed tomography (CT) was used to collect data on the lumbar spine vertebrae and curvature of 49 subjects. The CT data were processed by segmentation, landmark identification, and template mesh mapping, then SSMs of the individual vertebrae and entire lumbar spine were established using generalized Procrustes analysis and principal component analysis.

Epilepsy affects over 50 million people worldwide. Drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) accounts for up to a third of these cases, and neuro-inflammation is thought to play a role in such cases. Despite being a long-debated issue in the field of DRE, the mechanisms underlying neuroinflammation have yet to be fully elucidated.

Objectives: To establish antemortem and postmortem injury models in nude mice, observe the morphological changes of the wounds and the changes of the microbial communities in the wounds at different time points after the injury, and analyze the differences between antemortem and postmortem wounds.

Methods: Abdominal injury models were established in 48 BALB/c nude mice, which were classified into antemortem injury, 4 h and 72 h postmortem injury groups, and the gross manifestations and histopathological changes were observed on days 1, 3, 5, 8, 11 and 15 after injury. The microbial communities in the wounds were analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing technology.

Radioactive pertechnetate (TcO ) from the nuclear fuel cycle presents a severe risk to the environment due to its large solubility in water and non-complexing nature. By utilizing the chaotropic properties of TcO and its nonradioactive surrogate perrhenate (ReO ) and the principle of chaotropic interactions, a series of quaternary ammonium-containing polyelectrolyte brush-grafted silica particles are designed and applied to remove ReO from water. These cationic hairy particles (HPs) are synthesized by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization of 2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate and subsequent quaternization with various halogen compounds.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is globally recognized as a significant pregnancy-related condition, contributing to complex complications for both mothers and infants. Traditional glucose tolerance tests lack the ability to identify the risk of GDM in early pregnancy, hindering effective prevention and timely intervention during the initial stages.

Objective: The primary objective of this study is to pinpoint potential risk factors for GDM and develop an early GDM risk prediction model using neural networks to facilitate GDM screening in early pregnancy.

Elaborate engineering of the microstructure of electromagnetic (EM) absorption materials affords infinite potential for achieving superior EM wave absorption performance. In this work, a leaf-like Co/C nanosheet was rationally fabricated by a facile pyrolysis of a CoZn-based zeolitic imidazolate framework-L (Co/Zn-ZIF-L) precursor. Herein, Co nanoparticles (NPs) are uniformly confined in the leaf-like porous carbon matrix, forming attractive heterostructures.

Unlabelled: Bedaquiline is a key drug recommended by the WHO for the treatment of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB, and its use could potentially shorten treatment duration with improved outcomes. However, resistance against this drug has increased, resulting in serious concerns. Heteroresistance is among the important obstacles to complicate the detection and treatment of MTB drug resistance.

Zinc-nickel batteries (ZNBs) are promising green energy storage devices. However, ZNBs employing traditional strong alkaline aqueous electrolytes are plagued by dendrite formation, corrosion, shape change, and electrolyte dehydration, which severely hinder their wider application. To overcome such obstacles, introducing sodium polyacrylate (PANa) and trimethyloctadecylammonium chloride (STAC) as electrolyte additives is proposed.

In the era of genomic characterization of strains for public health microbiology, whole genome sequencing (WGS)-enabled subtyping of provides superior discrimination of strains compared to traditional methods such as serotyping. Nonetheless, serotypes are still very useful; they maintain historical continuity and facilitate clear communication. Genetic determination of serotypes from WGS data is now routine.

Unlabelled: Carbapenem-resistant () poses a major threat to global public health. This study aimed to investigate the genomic characteristics and phylogenetic relatedness of colonization and infection with among intensive care unit (ICU) patients. A total of 61 isolates, including 29 non-ICU-acquired and 32 ICU-acquired strains, were collected by active screening and infection culture from 16 ICUs through a multicenter cohort study.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease caused by SFTS virus (SFTSV). Shandong province is one of the epidemic regions with high incidence rate of SFTS. To investigate phylogenetical and genetic evolution characteristics of SFTSV in Shandong province, we isolated SFTSV from suspected patients between April 2023 and October 2024, and then whole SFTSV genomes were amplified and sequenced in this study.

Difucosyllactose (DFL), a representative bisfucosylated oligosaccharide found in human milk, has garnered significant attention due to its immense health benefits. To date, several plasmid-based engineered strains have been established for DFL synthesis. However, these strains face challenges such as antibiotic dependence and plasmid instability, which limit their commercial application in the food industry.

Background: Dolutegravir/lamivudine (DTG/3TC) is a recommended therapy regimen for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-negative people living with HIV (PLWH) who have achieved HIV virological suppression or are treatment-naïve. However, this may overlook the impact of occult hepatitis B infection on HIV suppression, which mainly present as hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb) positive but HBsAg negative. We aim to assess the effect of HBcAb positivity on HIV suppression among PLWH who had switched to DTG/3TC.

Background: Nuclear expression of CTNNB1 is occasionally negative in solid-pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas, leading to a missed diagnosis. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the clinical significance of CTNNB1 mutation detection for diagnosing SPN and explore the difference in clinicopathological characteristics at different ages and sex.

Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for a pathologically confirmed SPN in our institution between 2011 and 2020 were collected.

Metal nitride species are recognized as key intermediates in the conversion of dinitrogen (N) to ammonia (NH). In this work, we report the isolation of a multimetallic nitride-bridged thorium complex () by completely cleaving the N≡N triple bond of N. The complex was synthesized through the reduction of a thorium precursor, {N[CHCHN-PPr]ThCl} () and chromium dichloride (CrCl) using potassium graphite (KC) under an N atmosphere.

As a natural biomaterial with a superior comprehensive performance, gelatin has been widely explored in various biomedical and bioengineering applications. However, the ease of solidification of gelatin solutions at room temperature causes great inconvenience in specific application scenarios where injection is required. Here we addressed this problem by introduction of competitive hydrogen bond (CHB)-containing substances to gelatin to interfere with the original intergelatin hydrogen bonds.

Background: Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) and fusion-targeted biopsy (TB) have improved the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa); however, it remains unclear whether secondary lesions (SLs) identified on mpMRI must also be biopsied in addition to the index lesion (IL). Currently, American Urological Association and European Association of Urology guidelines suggest biopsying all lesions, but supporting data are sparse. This study examines whether including SL biopsies provides additional value in csPCa detection compared to IL biopsy alone when systematic biopsy (SB) is also performed.
