Article Synopsis
  • The phosphate oxygen isotope (δO) technique is useful for tracking phosphorus sources and transformations, but existing pretreatment methods for sediments are not widely applicable.
  • This study focuses on optimizing the δO pretreatment process for sediments, using the Fuyang River Basin and South Lake as a case study, and compares the effectiveness of the Blake and McLaughlin methods.
  • Results showed that the Blake method is superior in phosphorus recovery and organic matter removal, and after optimizing it further, the method improved efficiency and reduced experimental time, providing a more practical solution for broader use of sediment δO technology.
