Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluates the outcomes of axillary to carotid bypass surgery in patients with chronic common carotid artery occlusion, focusing on both immediate and long-term results.
  • Over a follow-up period of up to 17 years, the procedure demonstrated high graft patency and low complication rates, with no perioperative strokes or deaths reported.
  • The findings indicate that this surgical method is a safe and effective treatment option, but further validation in larger, randomized studies is recommended.

Background: A case of mesocavoatrial shunting for the treatment of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) with long-term follow-up is reported.

Methods: A 25-year-old man with stage II BCS was treated with a mesocavoatrial shunt to decompress the portal and IVC hypertension. During the 6-year follow-up, the patient was able to resume work as a salesperson and has since led a normal life.

Objective: To ascertain the diagnosis of such a rare disease as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type IV by the technique of DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid)analysis.

Methods: The primer sequences of Col3A1 gene were designed. Genomic DNA was isolated from the peripheral blood samples.

Purpose: To evaluate using in-vitro and in-vivo models the feasibility and capture efficiency of a new self-convertible inferior vena cava filter (SCF), equipped with a biodegradable self-converting switch.

Materials And Methods: Capture rates were tested in an in-vitro flow model for simulated supine and upright positions with clot diameters of 3 mm and 5 mm and tube diameters of 22 mm, 25 mm, and 28 mm. In the in-vivo study, five filters were implanted in five adult dogs.

Background: We report a case of a mesojugular shunt for Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) with long-term follow-up.

Methods: A 32-year-old woman presented with late stage BCS. She was treated with a mesojugular shunt to relieve her portal hypertension.

Objective: To evaluate medium-long term patency of below-knee bypass on patients who suffered from diabetic lower limb ischemia.

Methods: Clinical and follow-up data of 51 patients was retrospectively analyzed who underwent 56 below-knee bypass because of diabetes from November 2001 to December 2006. There were 35 male and 16 female with an average age of 68 years.

Objective: To explore the method and effectiveness of treatment for severe acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) in lower extremity.

Methods: Eighteen patients with severe acute DVT treated in our hospital from January 1, 2002 to December 31, 2008 were retrospectively analysed. All the patients had limb edema and pain, sixteen had limb cyanochroia(one had calf skin ulcer and foot gangrene), two had limb pallor, ten had weakened dorsalis pedis artery pulsation, eight had silent dorsalis pedis artery pulsation.

Therapy for patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome is well established. For those with commonly seen localized lesions, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty or stenting is the first-line treatment. Treatment methods for severely ill patients in whom intervention has failed, or those in a poor general condition, are worth exploring.

Cerebral ischemia resulting from four cervical arterial occlusions due to Takayasu's arteritis is a rare condition. Ascending aortounilateral/-bilateral internal carotid arterial bypass is a means for relieving it. However, postoperative reperfusion syndrome remains an unsolved severe, even fatal complication.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of surgical bypass and to explore the role of transcranial doppler (TCD) during the bypass operation.

Methods: From March 2003 to February 2008, sixteen patients (4 male and 12 female) with mean age of 32 years old and mean disease course of 7.5 years were treated by surgical procedures.

Objective: To investigate the management of complicated, severe or recurrent Budd-Chiari syndrome.

Methods: From February 2004 to August 2007, 28 patients with complicated, severe or recurrent Budd-Chiari syndrome were treated. In this series, 16 patients relapsed after treated with percutaneous transluminal angioplasty or stent deployment, 2 cases relapsed after surgery; and the other 10 were under severe conditions and hard to treat, including malignancy of the inferior vena cava and right atrium.

Background: Many treatment options for lower limb ischemia are difficult to apply for the patients with poor arterial outflow or with poor general conditions. The effect of medical treatment alone is far from ideal, especially in patients with diabetic foot. A high level amputation is inevitable in these patients.

Objective: To explore the feasibility of the tissue engineered venous grafts (TEVGs) constructed in vitro based on canine autologous bone marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and porcine decellularized aortic scaffolds implanted into the canine inferior vena cava.

Methods: To draw out a volume of 8 - 12 ml of bone marrow from the canine (n = 8), to culture and expand EPCs in vitro using conditioned medium. After labeled with a red fluorescent dye PKH26-GL, the cells were seeded onto the luminal surface of decellularized porcine scaffolds with single, rotative method for 4 h.

Objective: To summarize therapeutic efficacy of vascular reconstruction in treating infrapopliteal arterial occlusion.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of vascular reconstruction of lower extremity was made in 56 cases suffering from popliteal arteries or 3 branches of popliteal arteries (anterior tibial, posterior tibial, peroneal artery) between July 2001 and August 2005 in our hospital. According to the level of lower extremity arterial occlusion, a composite grafts which consisting of a combined proximal PTFE prosthesis grafts with autogenous vein grafts were used to establish the sequential vascular reconstruction for multilevel and multistage arterial occlusive disease.

Objective: To explore the primary experimental methods to construct tissue engineering blood vessel.

Methods: Using the collagen-chitosan to prefabricate the scaffolds with 3-dimensional structure, the proliferated human endothelial cells (ECs), smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and fibroblasts act as the seed cells. The cells were seeded to scaffolds in two-step method, and engineering tissue were matured by static culture or bioreactor culture.
