End-user feedback early in product development is important for optimizing multipurpose prevention technologies for HIV and pregnancy prevention. We evaluated the acceptability of the 90-day dapivirine levonorgestrel ring (DPV-LNG ring) used for 14 days compared to a dapivirine-only ring (DVR-200mg) in MTN-030/IPM 041 (n = 23), and when used for 90 days cyclically or continuously in MTN-044/IPM 053/CCN019 (n = 25). We enrolled healthy, non-pregnant, HIV-negative women aged 18-45 in Pittsburgh, PA and Birmingham, AL (MTN-030 only).

PC-1005 gel (MIV-150, zinc, and carrageenan) exhibits in vitro antiviral HIV-1, human papillomavirus (HPV), and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) activity, attractive for a multipurpose prevention technology candidate. We evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics, and antiviral effect of rectally applied PC-1005.

Methods: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a systematic review on outcomes for different surgical approaches-suprapatellar (SP), infrapatellar (IP), medial parapatellar (MPP), and lateral parapatellar (LPP).
This review summarizes recent findings on stress-related programming of brain development , with an emphasis on situating findings within the mothers' broader psychosocial experiences. Meta-analyses of observational studies on prenatal stress exposure indicate the direction and size of effects on child neurodevelopment are heterogeneous across studies. Inspired by lifespan and topological frameworks of adversity, we conceptualize individual variation in mothers' lived experience during and prior to pregnancy as a key determinant of these heterogeneous effects across populations.

There are limited electrophysiological data, however, describing how parkinsonism impacts neuronal activity in the pre-supplementary motor area (pre-SMA), an area in medial frontal cortex involved in movement planning and motor control. In this study, single unit activity was recorded in the pre-SMA of two non-human primates during a visually cued reaching task in both the naive and parkinsonian state using the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) model of parkinsonism.

This study explores the disparity in trauma research funding, focusing on Oklahoma compared to neighboring and populous states.
Methods: Using data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s Web-based Injury Statistics Query and Reporting System (WISQARS™) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)'s RePORT databases, we analyzed age-adjusted years of potential life lost (YPLL) due to trauma and corresponding NIH funding across different states and nationally.

Unlabelled: HPTN 084 demonstrated the superiority of long-acting injectable cabotegravir (CAB-LA) compared with daily oral tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-emtricitabine (F/TDF) for HIV prevention in women. CAB-LA (600 mg) or placebo injections were administered 4 weeks after an initial dose (loading dose) and every 2 months (Q2M) thereafter; this is the approved regimen. Participants experienced both loading dose and Q2M delays during the trial.

While daily oral PrEP adherence may be challenging, long-acting (LA-)PrEP in oral or implant formulations could overcome frequent dosing with convenient administration. The novel drug islatravir (ISL) may be suitable for LA-PrEP, but dose-dependent reductions in T cell and lymphocyte counts were observed at high doses.

While Mast Quadrant tubular retractors have been used in spine fusion and endoscopic procedures, their application in minimally invasive tumor resections has not been widely discussed. This report showcases the use of a Mast Quadrant tubular retractor for the minimally invasive resection of a lumbar vertebral body osteoid osteoma.

Local Problem: The institution had a high rate of urinary tract infection (UTI) and IUC reinsertion after hip fracture surgery.
Methods: A pre/post-implementation design was used for this quality improvement initiative.
Adherence drives efficacy in PrEP clinical trials. We compared drug concentrations and self-reported adherence in HPTN069/ACTG5305, a double-blinded, randomized trial of the safety and tolerability of candidate PrEP regimens that included maraviroc (MVC), tenofovir (TDF), and emtricitabine (FTC). Plasma drug concentrations and self-reported adherence by computer-assisted self-interview (CASI) were assessed at study weeks 24 and 48.

The purpose is to evaluate the differential impact of kidney dysfunction on perioperative outcomes including surgical and medical complications, extended length of hospital stay (LOS), and death within 30 days following ACDF.
Patient Sample: This was a retrospective cohort study of prospectively collected data using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database to identify patients who had undergone an elective ACDF procedure between 2011-2021 using Current Procedural Terminology code 22551.
Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a syndrome that characteristically presents with progressive gait impairment, cognitive deficits, and urinary urgency or incontinence. We present a case of a 54-year-old male with a past medical history of alcohol use and no primary care provider with new-onset auditory hallucinations. The patient was found to have a marked enlargement of the supratentorial and infratentorial ventricles on both computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and an opening pressure of 21 on the lumbar puncture, concerning for NPH.

Background: Vaginal rings formulated to deliver two drugs simultaneously have potential as user-controlled, long-acting methods for dual prevention of HIV and pregnancy.
Methods: Two phase 1 randomized trials (MTN-030/IPM 041 and MTN-044/IPM 053/CCN019) respectively enrolled 24 and 25 healthy, HIV-negative participants to evaluate safety, pharmacokinetics, and vaginal bleeding associated with use of a vaginal ring containing 200mg dapivirine (DPV) and 320mg levonorgestrel (LNG) designed for 90-day use. MTN-030/IPM 041 compared the DPV/LNG ring to a DPV-only ring (200mg) over 14 days of use.
