Biodiversity has undergone a major decline throughout recent decades, particularly in farmland. Agricultural practices are recognized to be an important pressure on farmland biodiversity, and pesticides are suspected to be one of the main causes of this decline in biodiversity. As part of the national plan for reduction of pesticides use (Ecophyto), the French ministry of agriculture launched the 500 ENI (nonintended effects) monitoring program in 2012 in order to assess the unintended effects of agricultural practices, including pesticide use, on biodiversity represented by several taxonomic groups of interest for farmers.

A new double neptunium zirconium phosphate of the type MZr(PO) (M = Np), crystallizing in the structure type NaZr(PO) (NZP, NASICON), was synthesized by solid state reactions at high temperatures and characterized by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The Rietveld refinement of the XRD pattern together with the analysis of the IR spectra of the sample confirmed the space group P3[combining macron]c, the same as that for the lanthanide analogues LnZr(PO). However, Mössbauer studies revealed the presence of neptunium in the two oxidation states +3 and +4, indicating a two-phase NZP system with different crystallographic environments of the neptunium atoms.

The physical and chemical properties at low temperatures of hexavalent disodium neptunate α-Na2NpO4 are investigated for the first time in this work using Mössbauer spectroscopy, magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements. The Np(VI) valence state is confirmed by the isomer shift value of the Mössbauer spectra, and the local structural environment around the neptunium cation is related to the fitted quadrupole coupling constant and asymmetry parameters. Moreover, magnetic hyperfine splitting is reported below 12.

The dispersion mechanism of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in organic solutions of poly(3-alkyl thiophenes, P3ATs) was examined in a study that combines experimental investigation of the dispersion mechanism and molecular theory calculations of the effective intertube potential for polymer wrapped CNTs. The minimal polymer concentration required for dispersion of CNT served as a comparative measure of the efficiency of P3AT derivatives that differ in the length of the alkyl side chains or the regiochemistry of the monomers in three solvents: 1,2 and 1,3 dichlorobenzene and chloroform. While previous studies focused on the adsorption mechanism of P3ATs onto SWNT, we find that the dispersing efficiency depends not only on the stacking of the polymer backbone onto the CNT ("wrapping"), but also on the steric repulsion among the side chains of adsorbed P3ATs.

Addition of small concentrations of different inorganic salts to THF solutions of poly(3-hexyl thiophene), which contain non-dispersed powder of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes (MWNTs), was found to "salt-in" the precipitated tubes leading to the formation of a stable dispersion of the MWNTs. This effect seems to result from a salt-induced conformational change of polymer chains adsorbed onto the CNTs, resulting in the onset of (entropic) steric repulsion among polymer-decorated chains.
