Article Synopsis
  • - Ovarian cancer (OC) is a highly dangerous cancer in women, often diagnosed at advanced stages, leading to significant health risks and high death rates.
  • - The use of positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is becoming increasingly important in managing ovarian cancer, helping with evaluation, staging, treatment planning, and monitoring for relapse.
  • - This review examines the role of PET/CT in epithelial ovarian cancer, discussing its guidelines, current applications, and the potential for new imaging techniques and radiotracers.

Article Synopsis
  • Female genital tuberculosis (FGTB) can lead to infertility and the formation of tubo-ovarian (TO) masses, which the study aimed to evaluate using PET-CT imaging to assess treatment responses.
  • A prospective study on 47 patients with confirmed FGTB involved using 18F-FDG PET/CT scans before and after a 6-month anti-tubercular treatment (ATT) to measure glucose uptake in the TO masses.
  • Results showed a significant decrease in TO masses post-treatment, indicating that PET-CT is an effective tool for evaluating the treatment response in patients with tubercular TO masses.

We present the case of a 33-year-old woman with complaints of headache and palpitations with raised urinary catecholamines. Ultrasound of the abdomen was noncontributory, and the patient was referred for 68Ga-DOTANOC PET/CT, which revealed tracer accumulation in the thecal sac/spinal canal at D5-D7 level, suggestive of a thoracic paraganglioma. MRI of the spine subsequently confirmed the presence of an extradural mass in the spinal canal extending from D4 to D8.

Rectal carcinoma with metastasis to skeletal muscle is rare. So far, 16 cases of skeletal muscle metastasis from colorectal carcinoma have been documented of which only 5 were rectal carcinomas. We discuss here the case of a 69-year old male, a known case of mucinous adenocarcinoma status post neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and abdomino perineal resection, who presented with low backache 4 months post surgery.
