Infrared recording of phase gratings is investigated in Sn(2)P(2)S(6) crystals by radiation of a Nd(3+):YAG laser (lambda = 1.06 microm) Space-charge formation and hologram recording are dominated by diffusion charge transport. Without an applied electric field, but with preexposure of the sample to incoherent white light, the gain factor exceeds 6 cm(-1) at laser intensities above 50 W/cm(2).

Desferrioxamine (DFO) in therapeutically useful amounts was incorporated into red blood cells (RBC) by means of a dialysis method. Entrapped DFO interacted with hemoglobin which was indicated by the formation of methemoglobin. This process was influenced to a great extent by the duration and temperature of the incubation steps.

The sleep-waking behavior of a male infant, normal with respect to pregnancy, delivery and Apgar score, was observed continuously from birth till the first 4 months of life. The infant was allowed to sleep and awake according to his own schedule and was fed only if his behavior could be judged as a feeding demand. Using several methods of computerized analysis it could be demonstrated that the spontaneous sleep-waking behavior was mainly driven by two endogenous rhythms, an ultradian cycle and a circadian one.
