Breast cancer therapy and bone.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality. The estrogen deprivation associated with therapies used to treat this disease may result in significant loss of bone density and a consequent increase in fracture risk. Anti-resorptive osteoporosis therapies (bisphosphonates and the inhibitor of receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand [RANKL] denosumab) play an important role in the mitigation of cancer therapy-induced bone loss (CTIBL), and may function as adjuvant therapy in moderate to high-risk breast cancer to prevent disease recurrence.

Tuberculous prostatitis: a condition not confined to the immunocompromised.

Tuberculous (TB) prostatitis is rare; usually occurring in immunocompromised men. It can mimic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), chronic prostatitis or prostate cancer. This report in an immunocompetent 72-year-old man adds to the clinical spectrum of the five prior reported cases.

Purpose: The use of mobile phone applications (Apps) has modernised the conventional practice of medicine. The diagnostic ability of the current Apps in prostate specific antigen monitoring, and its diagnostic ability within prostate cancer (PCa) risk calculators have not yet been appraised. We aimed to review, rate and assess the everyday functionality, and utility of all the currently available PCa risk calculator Apps.

Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections in a Female Child With Polydactyly and a Pelvic Mass: Consider the McKusick-Kaufman Syndrome.

A 3-year-old female child presented with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections. On general examination, polydactyly and a pelvic mass were present. An imperforate hymen was also documented on vaginal inspection.
