Modified impression technique for extreme mouth-opening limitation caused by systemic scleroderma.

Systemic scleroderma is a relatively rare, autoimmune, chronic, and debilitating disease, and its etiology is unknown. The disease is characterized by vasomotor disturbances causing skin and mucosa hardening, hand stiffness, excess production of collagen fibers, and impairment of the internal organs associated with the immune system. Extreme mouth-opening limitation is one of the symptoms in the oral cavity, and compromises dental intervention.

Mapping Research Conducted on Long-Term Care Facilities for Older People in Brazil: A Scoping Review.

This scoping review aimed to explore the characteristics, strengths, and gaps in research conducted in Brazilian long-term care facilities (LTCFs) for older adults. Electronic searches investigating the residents (≥60 years old), their families, and the LTCF workforce in Brazil were conducted in Medline, EMBASE, LILACS, and Google Scholar, within the timescale of 1999 to 2018, limited to English, Portuguese, or Spanish. The reference lists were hand searched for additional papers.

Older adults with physical disabilities: vulnerabilities relative to the body, the physical and social environment.

Objective: to understand the vulnerabilities of older adults with physical disabilities regarding their body, physical and social environments.

Method: this was a qualitative study based on Alfred Schütz' social phenomenology, with 15 older adults with physical disability from Cuiabá, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Open-ended questionnaires were administered to the participants in 2017.

Objectives: To compare the demographic, economic, functional, and health conditions of non-Japanese, Japanese, and their descendants; and to analyze comparatively the functional and health conditions of older adults born in Japan and their descendants born in Brazil.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in the city of São Paulo, in 2010, with 1,345 older adults (≥ 60 years) participants in the SABE Study (Health, Welfare and Aging).

To understand the meaning of health for elderly spouses who are caregivers, to know the changes in their health after taking this role and to learn how they take care of their own health, the authors developed an exploratory qualitative study in which elderly spouses caregivers were personally interviewed.
