The challenge of benchmarking carbon emissions in maritime ports.

The carbon footprint of ports is an essential step in understanding the most impactful activities in ports and designing reduction strategies to comply with the ambitious target set up by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) of cutting GHG emissions by 50% until 2050 (compared to 2008 levels). Acknowledging the importance of decarbonization, several ports have started to report their carbon emissions in recent years. However, currently, there is not a commonly acknowledged approach to quantify the carbon footprint of ports, making the benchmarking of ports that is the main goal of this paper, a challenging task.

Hepatic Angiosarcoma Masquerading as Hemangioma: A Challenging Differential Diagnosis.

Hemangiomas are usually diagnosed based on ultrasound findings. The presence of symptoms, rapid growth or atipical imagiological findings should make us consider other diagnoses, including malignant tumors such as angiosarcomas. We describe the case of a previously healthy 46-year-old female without a history of exposure to carcinogens who presented with abdominal pain for two months.

Association between bevacizumab-related hypertension and response to treatment in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

Background: Bevacizumab has become standard of care as first-line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), after proving increased response rates and improvement in survival outcomes. Hypertension (HTN) is a common complication of the treatment with bevacizumab and, owing to its close relation with antiangiogenic mechanism, may represent a clinical biomarker to predict the efficacy of the treatment. The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate if HTN grades 2 to 3 were correlated with response to treatment with bevacizumab in first line, as well as with improved progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), in a series of patients with mCRC.

Eosinophilic colitis.

A 57-year-old man, diagnosed with colon cancer stage III in July/2010, underwent surgery and received adjuvant chemotherapy with FOLFOX 4 (5-fluorouracil; calcium folinate and oxaliplatin), which ended in March/2011 after 12-cycles. It was then decided to maintain periodical surveillance. About 1 year later, the patient developed several episodes of diarrhoea, mainly during the night, and presented persistent peripheral eosinophilia in the blood count (range 585-1300 eosinophils/µL).

Concurrent breast stroma sarcoma and breast carcinoma: a case report.

Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the most important health problems in the world and affects a great number of women over the entire globe. This group of tumors rarely presents as bilateral disease and, when it does happen, normally occurs within the same histological type. We report a rare case of concurrent bilateral breast cancer with two different histology types, a breast carcinoma and a breast sarcoma, in a 42-year-old woman referred to our hospital.

[Biosimilars in oncology].

The development of biotechnology drugs represents one of the great advances in medical therapy and it was observed an exponential growth in its use. The resource to these drugs in Oncology and Hematology is no exception and it soon became an essential element of an integrated and directed therapy strategy. The expiry of the first biotechnology drugs patents has opened the door for the development and marketing of biosimilars, which entry in the Portuguese market was recently approved.

[Guidelines for prevention of febrile neutropenia].

Neutropenia and febrile neutropenia are common consequences of some cytotoxic chemotherapy regimens. This situation leads to modifications of the therapeutic regimen, conducting to either dose reduction or cycle delays. Granulocyte colony stimulating factors are commonly used to minimize chemotherapy cytotoxic effect on the granulocytic series.
