Background: Ongoing opioid treatment can potentially modify symptoms of myocardial infarction (MI) and cause a lack of recognition and treatment delay.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine MI symptoms and the time to hospitalization for patients in ongoing opioid treatment compared to patients without ongoing opioid treatment.
Methods: We evaluated calls to the Copenhagen Emergency Medical Services in Denmark from 2014 to 2018.
Background: Surgical left atrial appendage (LAA) closure concomitant to open-heart surgery prevents thromboembolism in high-risk patients. Nevertheless, high-level evidence does not exist for LAA closure performed in patients with any CHADS-VASc score and preoperative atrial fibrillation or flutter (AF) status-the current trial attempts to provide such evidence.
Methods: The study is designed as a randomized, open-label, blinded outcome assessor, multicenter trial of adult patients undergoing first-time elective open-heart surgery.
Aims: Current guidelines recommend serial echocardiography at minimum 1-2 year intervals for monitoring patients with nonsevere aortic valve stenosis (AS), which is costly and often clinically inconsequential.We aimed to develop and test whether the biomarker-based ASGARD risk score (Aortic Valve Stenosis Guarded by Amplified Risk Determination) can guide the timing of echocardiograms in asymptomatic patients with nonsevere AS.
Methods: The development cohort comprised 1,093 of 1,589 (69%) asymptomatic patients with mild-to-moderate AS who remained event-free one year after inclusion into the SEAS trial.
Background And Aim: Scarce data exist on the true incidence of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after acute abdominal surgery and associated outcomes. Aims: To evaluate the extent of left atrial (LA) fibrosis in patients with a recent stroke without atrial fibrillation and controls without established cardiovascular disease.
Methods And Results: This prospectively designed study used cardiac magnetic resonance to detect LA late gadolinium enhancement as a proxy for LA fibrosis. Between 2019 and 2021, we consecutively included 100 patients free of atrial fibrillation with recent ischaemic stroke (<30 days) and 50 age- and sex-matched controls.
ECG is a non-invasive tool for arrhythmia detection. In recent years, wearable ECG-based ambulatory arrhythmia monitoring has gained increasing attention. These models, however, result in a significantly high false positive rates (FPRs) when applied on ECG data collected under free-living ambulatory conditions and in the presence of non-AF arrhythmias.
Method: This paper proposes DeepAware, a novel hybrid model combining deep learning (DL) and context-aware heuristics (CAH), which reduces the FPR effectively and improves the AF detection performance on participant-operated ambulatory ECG from free-living conditions.

Background: P-wave duration (P ) and P-wave area (P ) have been linked to risk of atrial fibrillation (AF), but they do not improve the efficacy of Framingham AF risk score. We suggest the incorporation of both variables in one index, the P-wave area/P-wave duration (P ) index, which may be considered an expression of the average amplitude of the P wave that reflects aspects of P-wave morphology.
