Patient and public involvement in healthcare: a systematic mapping review of systematic reviews - identification of current research and possible directions for future research.

Objectives: To provide an overview of patient and public involvement (PPI) in the mesolevel and macrolevel of healthcare (different from PPI in research) and identify directions for future research by mapping contexts, terminology, conceptual frameworks, measured outcomes and research gaps.

Design: Mapping review of systematic reviews. A patient coresearcher (JB) was involved in all stages.

Drawing in Ethnography: Seeing and Unseeing Everyday Life with Dementia in Sweden.

In this article, I present how drawing offers valuable ethnographic possibilities in care settings where verbal communication is challenging. The empirical examples derive from a study where I drew in situ in dementia care units to explore what residents and staff members found important in their everyday practices. I demonstrate how experimenting with the drawing process as well as the resulting drawings enabled diverse forms of participation to and matters together with residents and staff members.

(In)visible materialities in the context of dementia care.

Seemingly mundane materialities are intertwined with important, but often neglected, care interactions. It has been argued that if healthcare professionals paid more attention to the roles materialities can have, everyday routines could become important occasions for care. In response to such proposals, we argue that it is relevant to examine how materialities are currently understood.

Not just things: the roles of objects at the end of life.

While the study of objects in care contexts is an emerging research field, it is largely overlooked in end of life (EoL) care. In this study, we empirically and inductively explore the roles of objects at the EoL from the perspective of bereaved family members. Open individual interviews were conducted with 25 family members recruited from palliative in-patient and homecare units, as well as residential care facilities.
