Objective: Empathy and empathy education have been reviewed a number of times through systematic reviews and meta-analyses; however, the topic of 'empathetic communication' remains poorly understood when considering engaging in hospital-based research. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to explore the existing literature concerning empathetic communication in hospital settings and to evaluate the definitions presented.

This qualitative study explores the viewpoints of hospice nurses about end-of-life issues and proposed legislation that would allow assisted dying/euthanasia to be performed in New Zealand. The study uses data that were obtained from in-depth interviews with 15 experienced Palliative Care Nurses who were all working at various hospices around New Zealand. A thematic analysis process was used to develop a thematic framework, and the results indicated that there were at least 3 main themes supported by a number of related subthemes.

There is, however, limited research on the effects of empathy education delivered in acute clinical settings and its impact on healthcare consumers. This research tests the feasibility and the potential efficacy outcomes of an immersive education programme developed by the research team in collaboration with clinical partners and a multidisciplinary advisory group.

Background: This study was born out of our reflections as educators responsible for helping new graduate nurses transition into their first year of professional practice through a formal education programme. Finding ourselves wondering about many of the questions the students raised with us, we set about looking more closely at what could be gleaned from the students' experience, captured in their written work over the course of a year.
Objectives: To identify the challenges and learning experiences revealed in reflective assignments written by new graduate nurses undertaking a postgraduate course as part of their transition to registered nurse practice.
