A flame retardant-hardener for epoxy resins: Synthesis, structural, and DFT studies of the [Cu(HNCHNH)(HO)Cl]Cl complex.

The aqua-(ethylenediamine)-chloro-copper(II) chloride complex, [Cu()(HO)(Cl)]Cl (), was synthesized by direct interaction of CuCl×2HO with ( is a polyethylenepolyamine containing ethylenediamine ()). The crystalline complex was characterized by IR spectra and structurally studied. Crystals of this complex consist of the [Cu()(HO)(Cl)] discrete cations, whose Cu ion is chelated by two molecules.
