The joint cartilage of the head of the radius, the metacarpal bone, the tibial cochlea, the proximal trochlea of the talus and the metatarsal bone of 26 cattle in the age groups fetuses, 0 days, 2-5 weeks, 2-5 months, 7-13 months, 2-3.5 years, and 5-7 years were examined macroscopically and histologically. Synovial grooves developed on all joint surfaces examined, but at different times.

Infection studies in harbour seal (Phoca vitulina) were conducted with the Snyder-Hill strain of canine distemper virus (CDV) that is virulent for dog and mink. The inoculated seals showed clinical symptoms which were to some degree similar to those observed in CDV infections of sensitive species of carnivores. Viral replication in lymphoid cells was followed by an extended period of immunosuppression.

During the seal epizootic in Danish waters in 1988 a total of 81 adult seals were necropsied. The cause of death was suppurative bronchopneumonia complicated by pleurisy. Histologically, an interstitial pneumonia with cytoplasmatic inclusion bodies typical of canine distemper was identified in many of the seals.
