Comprehensive healthcare for all includes gender-affirming hormone therapy for transgender and nonbinary individuals. It is the unique privilege of HIV providers, who take care of a disproportionate number of transgender people, to provide gender-affirming hormone therapy along with antiretroviral therapy. It could increase viral suppression rates, increase overall health outcomes, and decrease gender health disparities.

Objectives: Since 2020, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) no longer recommends single-dose azithromycin as first-line therapy for uncomplicated genitourinary chlamydia, advising instead a 7-day course of doxycycline. Our study investigates self-reported adherence to the new regimen, reasons for nonadherence, and the impact of dispensing the regimen on-site compared to prescribing it.
Methods: We performed a prospective observational study of adult patients treated for suspected or laboratory-confirmed uncomplicated genitourinary chlamydia at three urban emergency departments (EDs), where patients receive a prescription for doxycycline, and in a sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinic, where the 14 doxycycline pills are dispensed on-site.
Introduction: With an incidence of 0-5.2%, trocar site hernias frequently occur following laparoscopy. It is unclear to what extent the angle of trocar insertion affects the size of the fascial defect caused.

Enzymatic debridement is an effective tool in removing nonviable tissue, however, there is little evidence supporting its effect on planktonic and biofilm bacteria.
Objective: This study evaluated the effects of a novel BBD agent on removal of nonviable tissue, biofilm, and microbial loads in patients with chronic ulcers.
Purpose: The European Hernia Society guidelines of parastomal hernias, published in 2017, strongly recommend prophylactic synthetic non-absorbable mesh upon the construction of a permanent end colostomy to reduce the incidence of parastomal hernias. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the guidelines in Germany.
Methods: This is a retrospective multicentric analysis conducted in December 2022 at the University Hospital Brandenburg an der Havel.
Background: Pelvic floor training with biofeedback has been shown to significantly reduce symptoms of urinary incontinence. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pelvic floor training with the ACTICORE1 biofeedback device, which uses a noninsertable pelvic floor sensor with a digital interface.
Materials And Methods: A multicenter randomized controlled clinical pilot study in Germany was conducted between October 2021 and January 2022.
Lately, interest in both domain-specific and domain-general cognitive processes has increased as a means to explain soccer player expertise. While the two types of processes have mostly been studied separately, we sought to connect these lines of research by investigating the role of executive functions in soccer players' decision making from a developmental perspective. As these cognitive processes as well as their relation might differ between age groups, we took a developmental perspective to better understand this link in a sample of N = 128 soccer players (M = 10.

Healing ischemic wounds is necessary to optimise vascular outcomes and can be facilitated by dedicated appointments at a wound clinic. This study aimed to estimate the association between successful wound care initiation and 6-month wound healing, with specific attention to differences by race/ethnicity.

Nevertheless, the optimal timing of this medication remains unclear. The aim of this study was to determine more precisely the optimal time for administering antibiotics and to see if this could reduce the number of possible surgical site infections.

The situation is even more complicated when people who are dependent on a wheelchair want to take part. The sports project Freiwurf Hamburg aims to make team handball playable for everyone.

The burn registry was used to identify all patients admitted to our tertiary burn center from 2014 to 2018. Only patients with lower extremity burns (foot and/or ankle) were included.

The rarity of vermiform appendix duplication makes it a noteworthy medical occurrence. Approximately 100 reported cases have been documented since the first observed case in 1892.

We sought to determine the rate of osteomyelitis and any subsequent amputation in our patients with DM and lower extremity burns. We performed a single-site, retrospective review at our burn center using the institutional burn center registry, linked to clinical and administrative data.

Using human-centered design principles, a bundle of 6 individual and team nursing practices was developed. Patient satisfaction with pain management, as measured by the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems pain composite score, increased from the 25th to just under the 75th national percentile.

Background: Kaiser Permanente implemented a new model of nursing communication at shift change-in the bedside nursing report known as the Nurse Knowledge Exchange (NKE) in 2004-but noted variations in its spread and sustainability across medical centers five years later.
Methods: The six core elements of NKEplus were as follows: team rounding in the last hour before shift changes, pre-shift patient assignments that limit the number of departing nurses at shift change, unit support for uninterrupted bedside reporting, standardization for report and safety check formats, and collaboration with patients to update in-room care boards. In January 2011 Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC; Pasadena) began implementing NKEplus in 125 nursing units across 14 hospitals, with the use of human-centered design principles: creating shared understanding of the need for change, minimum specifications, and customization by frontline staff.
Background: Allergic rhinitis is manifested by watery discharge; however its clinical effect on the watery volume in the oral cavity is unknown. In addition, the low incidence of dry mouth due to treatment with the new generation antihistamines is based on subjective patients' reports only. This study aimed to examine the effect of loratadine and fexofenadine on the salivary gland function in patients diagnosed with allergic rhinitis compared to untreated allergic patients and healthy individuals.

The responses of two different tracheal preparations, rings and tubes, to carbachol and serotonin were compared both intra-species (Fisher vs. Lewis strain rats) and inter-species (rat vs.

In this study, we tested the hypothesis that excess mitogenic activity for airway smooth muscle cells is present within the lungs of hyperoxia-exposed immature rats. We assessed the proliferative effect of bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid from air- and O2-exposed animals on cultured rat tracheal smooth muscle cells.

This study was undertaken to determine whether prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a relaxant agent synthesized and released by airway epithelial cells, could exert long-term effects on airway smooth muscle by regulating cell proliferation. Incubation of growth-arrested tracheal smooth muscle cells with serum for 24 h stimulated DNA synthesis in a concentration-dependent manner, as determined by [3H]thymidine incorporation.

Because ATP increases Cl- secretion in cystic fibrosis (CF)-affected epithelia, the current study was designed to establish the link between these two events. Studies were done in epithelial, human MCF-7 breast tumor cells in which the presence of mRNA transcripts encoding CF transmembrane conductance regulator was initially established.
